I first became interested in Photography while serving with the U.S.Army in the early seventies. I had received training in and was doing sound recording for training films when I realized that my ear and the microphone didn’t hear things in the same way. To achieve good results I had to teach my ear to listen like a microphone. I had to hear beyond the sounds I wanted, to the noise that the ear perceives but the brain filters. I soon realized my eye was the same way and that I could teach myself to see using the tools that mimic vision. I bought a 35 mm camera with some black and white film and started.

at 1 time in my life i was field service on the machine that counted the $$ (CVCS) at the Federal Reserve Bank in Portland OR. it was not uncommon to see palates holding 4 to 6 100k cash setting around. inside the vault of each of the FRB's there is a framed set of each denomation of coins and notes from one Cent to 100K$ so i have seen them all.

I carry dental floss to tie back branches et.al. that may interfere with my composition, black tape, safety pins, and other handy items.

i agree, those just starting may find it useful (or so they think) and others just want a "formula"

after my Dr appt at Peace Health i got lost in the hospital trying to find my car. after walking around for about 25 min i saw a police officer and asked him for directions and he offered to drive me around and help me find my car. he said to hop in the back and we drove thru the parking lots till we found it. first time i was ever in back seat of a caged police car!

the view was very obstructed and not good of Photography.

In my opinion not even close. More sensitive sensors would allow better low light performance and much higher shutter speeds throughout the aperture range. Meta lenses might someday allow full frame performance in a mobile phone package; the bet camera is the one you have with you. Ultra sharp super zooms would make light work of high quality travel photography. AI that not only focuses on a recognized object but also automatically takes multiple images selecting the best shots. I could go on for more paragraphs about video and the lack of good inexpensive choices.

Our toolset is certainly far more than adequate, but new tools would make our tasks easier.

You raise a good point. There is still a lot of manual manipulation needed to get an old photo to a state where it will look like the original. I have been toying AI for spotting and noise reduction.

i have been giving a lot of thought to this "content aware" and artificial intelligence going on in what we used to call Photography.

Since Steven Sasson (USA) built his digital camera and Richard G Shoop (USA) created “SUPERPAINT” digital Photography has provided more and improved tools. Having started with film and PS 2.4 it seems the progression to today is it possible that its useful point in Photography has become saturated? Does it already do everything needed to reproduce the reality and vision?
