Yes, I've done it many times and I agree, it's normal course of business if the updates downloaded from Canon website.

For the 5D, it depends upon the size of the memory cards you are going to use. As I remember, you are limited to 8gb cards with 1.0.1

Here's the important caveat from another Canon forum site:

If the newer FW doesn't have a specific feature or upgrade that you need, you do not need to do it. As a matter of fact if you have a perfectly running 5D, I would not under any circumstances chance a FW upgrade. On the chance, albeit slim chance, it goes wrong you will have a brick and Canon can no longer unbrick it for you.

So I would recommend the same advice unless you need to use a larger memory card.

So, in case you do want to move forward with a Firmware update:

I would add that unless you have some experience performing a firmware update, really take care and read how to do it before you try. It's not hard, but there are a couple of important steps on all updates.

You can Google it and you will get a number of websites. I just tried one (https://eoscard.pel.hu/) and successfully created the FW 1.1.1 fir file. Let me know if you'd like me to send the fir file to you. I have not used the file, so I take no responsibility for it. I just created it from the download site.

Let me know...

Glenn

Thank you Glenn. I pretty happy with how the camera performs and don't need any new feature. That is one of reasons that I got it, I just want a simple camera with few features and good IQ, simple to use. That's 5D. That's my first Canon DSLR, I used be a Nikon shooter. I really like the ergonomics and controls of this 5D. I use 4 GB cards, all works great.

I downloaded the file and created FW 1.1.1 fir file but didn't run it yet. It's almost 33MB. I have found another 1.1.1 fir file for 5D on line and it's 5MB. Which one is a good one? Makes me think, should I do it or not. Thank you.

oh, thank you very much, I must have missed it. Do you think it is safe to run it in the camera if it's not from Canon web page?

I recently got a Canon 5D Mark I, (Classic). I saw the images that my friend gets from this camera and liked them a lot. So now I have it. The Firmware on it is 1.0.1, the latest version is 1.1.1.

Canon says that the firmware for 5D is no longer available. My question is should I get the latest firmware or leave it like that? The camera works fine.

Does anyone know where to get the latest firmware? Do I even have to worry about it? Thank you, David

Sold something to them and this is what I received today in an email:

"In order for us to process the ACH payment into your bank account, please fill in your routing and account numbers by clicking the secure link below. Please double check your payment details before submitting."

I know they are a reputable company, but I am feeling a little apprehensive about giving them this info. Would like to hear your opinions and/or experiences when selling to them.

Tony

I recently sold some of my gear to them and got the same email. I thought for a moment and gave them the information they needed. The money came to my account in one day with no problem.

It was great experience with MPB, the price they gave me was much better than I got from KEH. I would not hesitate to deal with them again.

Thank you! I'll check them out. Nothing shows up on Adorama or B&H and eBay is just plain scary.

I bought xe2-s with 18-55 three years ago and shortly after i got 55-200. I am still using xe2-s with these two lenses. Both lenses are great, the same excellent built quality, Image Stab. works great on both.
I wanted to upgrade the camera a few times, i checked xe-3, xt-2, xt-20-all great cameras, but didn't notice improvement in Image quality. Unless you shoot fast moving subjects (I don't) or need special features (I don't) Xe2-s with these two lenses is a great combo that will keep you happy.
I still think 16 mp is a perfect number for APS-C sensor. I would suggest get 55-200 and you will be ready for most situations.

The Nikon 18-140 is a good walk-around lens that could be had for a good price used. The 18-130 not so good....

I am VERY happy with 18--140mm. It stays on my d5500 most of the time. VR works great allowing me to use slow shutter speed.

I have a question for the Nikon gurus. My neighbor son is my camera buddy, and he wants to move to the Nikon full frame. However, I am a Canon user, and I down know much about the Nikon gear. We both take BIF and any other animals that cross our paths.

1) He currently has the D3100 and no telephoto lens.

2) He wants a full frame entry level and which telephoto will be a good deal for him.

3) in case dad doesn't want to pay for his camera which crop sensor will be good for him.

4) How much will this cost?

I am trying to get as much information for him and his father. He is a really good kid.

Thank you for all the help.

In case they don’t want to spend a lot of money tell them to look at Nikon D700. It’s an older camera but still a very capable camera. You can find a good body for around $350-400. With battery grip it can shoot up to 8 frame/sec (if I remember correctly).

As for the lens – AF-S Nikkor 70-300mm 1:4.5-5.6G VR. I like this lens: very sharp, focus is fast and VR works great. Could be found used for under $300.

That would be a good start for the young man without spending big $$$.
