I used a ThousanOak solar filter and my images were orange. Don't know why it would make a difference if exposure and WB is right.

I am wrong on the Thousand Oak filter, I my self have only Mylar filter, sorry for my wrong information!

Here is a link to explain different color from different filters!

My corona shots were really good, to me, anyway. But my partial shots all came out with a basically bright white sun rather than orange like most other people's. I couldn't do anything with Lightroom to make them the orange that I saw (white balance, tint, color sliders, etc.) . Shot with my Sony a6000 with a 55-210 lens and a solar filter. I already know that the lens probably wasn't long enough, but it got otherwise good shots.

Am I missing something?

Using Mylar Solar filter will show the Sun color orange, when using a Thousand-Oak solar filter, that image will be white.

I live in Westchester NY, We can only have 92% of the eclipse, I didn't use any of my DSLR/ML cameras but my old Panasonic super zoom set at 420mm F.Eq. at 400 ISO; 1/400 sec; F4.0. at the beginning, then changed to 800 ISO; 1/100sec at the end. I used a malar Solar filter, and converted the images to B&W.

It's not too early, flower are blooming before the greens start to show, then we will have all the color to capture! I have several IR filters for different color result using my full spectrum converted camera!

I have just finished the big event here in Westchester ny, I followed the whole show from the very first of the moment. It started with little cloud in the sky at 2:00pm, I snapped a shot in every 10 min. till after 3:15 pm, then the cloud started moving in and I have to stop, the sky was darkening, at least I show the peak moment of 90%. Too bad I couldn't see the the s Sun leaving out of the Moon like 2017. So this time I have only see half of it! I am happy any way!
I will post up some of them when I finished their editing!

So it just dawned on me today ( the day before the eclipse) that I should try and get some shots of it. I am north of Philly in the 91% totality zone. I know you need filters for your cameras and phones ( which I don’t have). But I do have glasses. Is holding my glasses over the lens safe?
Also, an article I read said that for a few minutes during totality, it is safe to remove the filters. I wonder if that will be safe in my area (at 91%)?

I used the mylar filter sheets from a cheap solar viewing paper glass from photo store. I remount the mylar sheet to a round cap and secured in front of my camera lens to take some images in 2017, it worked good. Here are some samples:

Why waste your time with a lens that operates only as a manual focus lens in a DSLR? There are numerous Nikon AFS lenses that operate as AF - Auto Focus - lenses on this model. Look for them. See page 252 - Compatible Lenses - Technical Notes - of the D3400 Reference Manual gives you all the exact details of the lenses to seek and those to avoid.

Half of my 12 lenses for my Nikon Df are manual AIs/AI and Pre AI lenses, I even use them on my new Zf with adapter. I don't consider it as wasting my time, I take my time to shoot with them and it's fun!

I always prefer a camera on a strap and on my shoulders. I feel it is safe and convenient too.
I have seen some carry the camera even DSLRs in their hand when on a shoot.
Which do you prefer?
Peter

I use wrist strap on all my cameras (DSLR/ML/P&S)

I am considering purchasing a Nikon Z lens 24-120. The zoom lens uses two concentric barrels, presumably necessary to extend over the full range. My concern is whether, over time, this two-barrel extension will droop or become loose enough such that the alignment of the optics inside will diminish. Does anyone have experience with such a system and its concentricity over time?

Thank you in advance

Loose barrel is one problem of this kind of lens, pumping air in and out inside of the camera is another problem, especially on the Nikon Z camera with the open sensor. it will be easily affected by unwanted dust!

I have several Nikons they all can be set to center point focusing. just get to the manual of "focus area" of your D7200 to choose where you want to. Good Luck!

I'm a dedicated Nikon user. I used to have a D600 and now own at D750 and D850. Recently Nikon had a 30 day free trial on the Zfc so I got one to try it out and sent it back. It's an amazing camera but I absolutely do not like holding it in my hand and I don't like the controls. For that reason I'm not interested in the Zf. I've shot the Z9 and the Z7II and to me these feel like Nikons in my hand. I don't know if Nikon is reading this but if you are - I've got money in the bank in hopes that you come out with a Z6III. In my mind it would be the Zf in a more ergonomic body. Please Nikon. I've been waiting almost 2 years for it. Please.

In 2013, I was thinking replace my D200 with a new one, I took the Df instead the D800 and I never look back and now I got the Zf not the Z6 nor the Z7. I love both. They are not for every body. Either you love them or hate them!
