Unfortunately not an option if I want to keep using the live-view exposure aids in the camera and take the photo I want to take. For example Fuji has an EVF mode they call Natural Live View as well as an option to disengage the EVF displaying exposure changes. That would improve the EVF image over what I had in that photo but that also renders useless the highlight clipping warning that I use to set exposure. Exposure is the issue. I posted that iris photo here this morning: https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-773153-1.html#13893147 If you download it and examine the EXIF data you'll see that I had the EC set to +1.7 when I took the photo. That explains why the EVF image is so bad. If I removed the +1.7 EC and then set a custom WB I'd have a much better looking EVF image and JPEG, (though still not the photo I wanted to take). But I would also end up with a raw file that was exposed 1.7 stops less than I wanted. There's the point; I'm taking the photo and I know how I want it exposed. I selected the best possible sensor exposure rather than the exposure that makes for a good looking EVF image. I don't want the exposure that makes the EVF image and JPEG look good. I want the exposure that produces the best possible raw file.
Unfortunately not an option if I want to keep usin... (show quote)

Consider me educated. I see your points.

On your right is my processed image and it's a pretty fair representation of that iris and what it looked like out in the garden a couple hours ago. In practical terms, an OVF would have shown me an image much more faithful to the iris I photographed. I'd prefer that to what you see here on your left. I think the difference shown has practical implications for using the camera and in photographic terms it is certainly both measurable and quantifiable.[/quote]

I'm wondering if you need to change a setting on your camera to get a better EVF version of what you are focusing on. If all mirrorless camera EVF work like yours, I believe sales would be way less. I would just stick with my D850 and quit hoping for a Z8.

Inside NX Studio, you want menu command - Window / Show Adjustments / Info Panel. If the Info Panel doesn't display, click the arrow on the very-most right of your window to expand that panel. Of the Three tabs, select Info. Even with all the formatted information, some of it Nikon specific, this is still only a partial listing of the full inventory of EXIF data in the image file.

Thank You Very Much CHG_CANON.
I've got it figured out now thanks to you. It seems to be a more easy to use tool than "info." in Photoshop.

Being unedited JPEGs from a Nikon body, download the free Nikon NX Studio from Nikon.com. Download and open the images and view the Information on the images, as well as zooming to the 100% of the images details.

I did the above and was able to "Copy File/Photo Information" and then paste the information to a Word Doc.
Super results!
I printed a document for each image and lined them up side-by-side to look for differences.

Since I wasn't having much luck with Nikon NX at first, I tried Photoshop, but going through the PS File Info. looked like a crazy amount of work.

Final question (I think): Is there any way to use NX Studio to view all the File Information directly on my computer screen without doing the "Copy File/Photo Information" ? I did see the little sample of the File Info. displayed along with the image, but this was way short of what I got when I printed the "Copy File/Photo Information".

Carl, you have to store the files so the EXIF can be obtained from the attachment / download. Please update / reply.

Hi CHG CANON,
I did the download for the images. What do I do next to see the EXIF information? I tried a few things but did not come up with anything I think is useful. Please help me learn.

This is a click-bait series that I found interesting.

One I am favoring is the Czechoslovakian Wolf Dog (see in attached link).

I have no pets, mostly due to allergies.
But I must say that those dogs at your link look beautiful.
I think that the dog's personalities must be important too.
If I could, I think I would have one of those.

I'm reporting back: Yesterday I had my second cataract surgery....the one to correct my other eye. I had my first surgery 2 weeks ago. I'm happy to report that my vision is very good in both eyes. I am super happy with the results. I still have about 27 days of drops to go in my second surgery eye. In about 6 weeks I am scheduled to go in for an eye exam to get corrective lenses (bifocals). I expect very little correction for distance viewing and the necessary correction for my bottom/bifocal lenses for reading. I'm going to get separate glasses for my computer 27" monitor usage. For most of my life I've been wearing glasses for distance viewing. Those glasses were bifocals so I could also see close up.

I am most happy to report that I can use my DSLR viewfinder with no problems, including reading the small letters/numbers at the bottom of the viewfinder.

I hope this post helps to assure anyone that has my previous doubts that, you will probably be able to use your camera viewfinder just fine after your cataract surgery.

Thank You to All Who assured me that my camera viewfinder usage would be fine.

Wow! So many kind, generous and very helpful people.

I am thankful for all of your comments and suggestions.
You've all helped me feel good about my situation
and the prospects for a successful and happy outcome
from my cataract surgery. I am especially appreciative

I just found out I will need cataract surgery (new lenses) for both my eyes. I don't visit the surgeon for consultation for about 1 month. I'm concerned that the lens replacements will affect my photography regarding camera viewfinders. I'm hoping to hear from HH members that have already had this experience and still use their cameras. I have two questions:
1. Will I still be able to read the numbers/symbols in my DSLR camera viewfinder?

I've been hoping to switch to mirrorless cameras. I haven't looked through the viewfinder of a mirrorless camera. I'm thinking mirrorless camera viewfinders work like miniature video screens.
2. Will I be able to use mirrorless camera viewfinders, particularly in terms of reading their numbers/symbols?

Thank you for helping me.

I use a free downloaded app called ImageExifViewer as suggested me by CHG CANON Just drag a photo into the app. The relevant data is listed within the app.

Thank you photogeneralist & CHG CANON.

I about went nuts trying to figure this out.
I couldn't get the Exif CHG CANON got when I used Photoshop
or Bridge. Then I discovered that if I clicked on (Download)
beneath the picture I got more info in PS and Bridge. When
I realized photogeneralist said to "drag a photo" then I was
able to see what I was looking for by using "Online EXIF Viewer".
I could never get the downloadable app to work for me. I think
there were too many steps for getting it installed.

So....Thank You both guys. I now have a new tool in my kit.

The answers are in the EXIF data.

The top / yellow has a manually set WB. Something done by the photographer in control of that camera. The bottom image has Auto WB as determined by the camera.

There's other differences such as the metering mode, the focal length, the aperture, shutterspeed and ISO making the exposure completely different between the two images. But, the WB is the most obvious beyond the different focal lengths of the zoom lens.

Help a beginner please.
How do you find the EXIF data for these pictures from the UHH post?

I had a similar problem when I bought a new hi-def monitor. Everything worked beautifully except my photoshop menus. It drove me crazy trying everything until I came across this website. Easy resolution and it works fine now.
Good luck!

Thanks Gatorcoach, but I'm satisfied with my current fix.
I went to your link and it looked to risky for me.
Thanks anyway.

I fixed the problem the only way I could figure out.
In Display>Scale and layout, I chose 175%.
That gave me the PS label print sizes I like.
I altered the size of all my Start page Apps to "small".
Although I lost the small print on each of the Apps,
I can still hover over the Apps to identify them.

Thanks for helping guys.

Thanks Rich. You've hit the nail on the head. My eyes aren't what they used to be. Unfortunately I feel that reading those tiny words is making my eyes worse. It only happens with PS/CR. All my other Apps are fine.

I did reduce the resolution as you've suggested. That seemed to bother my eyes as I wasn't getting the really sharp images I (my eyes) was use to. Actually I didn't realize how sharp my images were until I lowered the resolution.

Thanks for trying to help me.

Thank you DWU2.
Actually that helped, as it rebooted my brain's memory. I've tried one of the fixes found on the link you've suggested. I can adjust the PS menu and Layers print size to be a size that I like; but, that creates another issue, which I don't like......My Windows Start page Apps all get really large and misaligned from the arrangement I'm use to. That's why I can't find a suitable PS/CR print size I like. The larger sizes mess up my Start page.

Is there a way to get the Start App boxes smaller without the labels (print) inside of them going away? (All my medium size App boxes have words that tell me what the App is about.) And I have a lot of those boxes.
