If I should live long enough.

One group predicted "megadeaths" because of AI. "Megadeath" is the term used to describe the death of a million people. Other groups think the deaths caused by AI will only be in the thousands.

How very reassuring !!

I am in the process of converting from Windows to Mac. On my windows machine I use Vice Versa software to back up my files, but the creators of Vice Versa do not make a version that is compatible with Apple IOS. I would like advise on what software to use for the purpose of backing up my files in addition to Time Machine. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

iCloud, Time Machine, Carbon copy Cloner. Can make as many clones to external drives as you feel you need, copies everything and is bootable.

Saw a segment on the news that the older digital cameras are making a comeback. People liking the "look" of the images better (old school I guess). They also were saying that they like the fact that they put their smart phone away and that the digital camera has a single purpose. There was a camera store saying they were buying older cameras at a rate of about 100/week and selling just as many. Time to go to garage sales and see what develops.

They also said film cameras were making somewhat of a comeback. Our local camera store, Paul's Photo, just had a drive to gather old film cameras for local schools and students. I took one in and got a nice penny for it.

Walkman's are next.

Not to everyone's taste I expect but to lessen the boredom of lockdown thought I would try something new with an archive photo.

Great shot of a very interesting piece of Liverpool history. If you Google "Liverpool Victoria Monument in the May Blitz 1941" you'll see what i mean. She was "last woman standing" whilst everything around her was flattened.
Like St Pauls Cathederal in London she sustained barely a scratch. Divine Providence ?

I continue to struggle with Parkinson's in my right hand and staying steady with shutter release. My index finger jumps. I have configured the AEL button for BBF. That has really helped. I've read and searched the Friedman manual and Youtube videos, but still have not determined if I can configure another button for shutter release. I'm thinking the left button, if possible, might really help. I do have a wired cable release and that definitely helps when using a tripod. However, using the cable release while hand holding seems very difficult.

Any suggestions or solution would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for viewing,

Hi Mark, as the option of button re assignment is not possible i wonder if the use of a flash or "L" bracket might help. Your remote release could be affixed to the left side of the bracket in some way and the bracket itself would assist as a larger stable platform for the camera.
I've looked on Amazon and e-bay (i'm in UK so no point in giving you a link here) and there appear to be a number of size and shape options available for a reasonable price. Hope this may assist, good luck

Would anyone care to share their opinion concerning On1 editing software? Also, will it support the Nik collection as a plugin?

Hi, i have used ON1 since PhotoSuite 9 up to the latest iteration Photo RAW 2019. It works fine with Nik collection.

I've used it so long i can't remember if i installed as Plug- in or if PhotoRAW installed NIK automatically.

Here's how to on a Mac, open ON1 , select a photo and double left click to open in Edit, right click on photo to open drop down Contextual menu. In the Contextual menu you should see all the plug in options in the lower section. If the NIK collection is not showing go down to "Send to other application" and left click, on a Mac this takes you to Applications Folder( Programs folder in Windows ? ) Scroll to NIK Collection and click "open", this will install NIK in to ON1 Plug-in folder and should now be visible in the Contextual menu. Before attempting to Edit go to the Preferences menu in ON1 and set up how you wish the edits/copy to be handled.

Could be. My impression of the horizontal lines was that they were stiffeners in the vertical stabilizer/rudder.

That was my first impression to which my eye was initially drawn but following the (much fainter) lines out to left and right i then started to see a grid pattern appear. If nobody else can see a grid pattern i"ll go and have another large Merlot !!!

This past weekend I was shooting an event with my Nikon D500 and 200-500mm lens. After a few hours of using it, thin black vertical lines started showing up on the photos. And this was after having lunch. So it wasn't constant use. I tried everything I could think of to narrow down the problem. Both the QXD card and SD card were showing the same results. I tried RAW vs Jpeg. Removed the lens and stuck it back on. Changed from shutter priority to other modes. I stuck in the car and went to my back up body. I went back to the car later and stuck the lens back on the D500 and fired off a few shots to see if the issue had gone away. Sure enough, it was fine. I used this combo the next day with no issues. I've used this combo for almost a year now and have never seen this before. My 4 previous Nikon bodies never had this issue either.

Attached is one of the shots.

Is it just me? If you look at the white Fokker tailplane there are not just vertical lines but horizontal as well forming a grid pattern . Its as if one of the composition grids is overlaid in to the image.
Sensor overheated ?
Hope Nikon sort it for you,

As a mac user since 2012 ,iMac and MacBook pro i've been using Carbon Copy Cloner by Bombich.com. Its easy and intuitive to use with user guidance and help. I paid less than £20 back in 2016 and still receiving free updates. Its fully compatible with Mojave , i have multiple cloned drives on both macs and they are exact copies and bootable.Try their webpage https://bombich.com hope you get sorted.

Recently I have tried using My Passport (on a WD 4TB drive with over 3TB free, my Mac only has 250GB total disk space) to perform a backup of my Macbook Pro which is running Mojave 10.14. I have run backups successfully up and till recently. Lately, the backup runs and then fails at the end with a message to try again and then run Disk Utility if that doesn't work. I ran the Disk Utility repair option and the WD drive checked out ok.

Well, after confirming the definition of insanity by doing the same thing 3-5 times with no successful back up I'm open to suggestions as to what to do. I was able to successfully copying some individual files to the WD drive but rather have the comfort of a full back up.

Is the WD drive toast? Should I try something else like repartitioning or reformatting the drive (don't even know if this is an option)? Open to any suggestions from the Mac users.

Nice shot, if you haven't already done the tour of the original dock, which is underneath your subject its well worth doing. Its free but by appointment , booking at the info desk in the Maritime Museum. I struck lucky there and then.

Hi Pizza Day, if you intend the hood to be used mainly or solely on the M3 you need the vented hood in order to not obscure VF/Rangefinder. Wish i'd never parted with mine.Enjoy !
