I'll check it out. Thanks!
Staying with the jpeg setting. I don't feel the need to go with RAW right now. I just want to have fun taking pictures. and if I like one of my shots I'll just print it out, that simple. Simple is good for me now. Thanks for your response about what the fine setting is. Helpful. Thank you!
I like your answer because I think I'm in over my head again. I with stick with fine for now, and will practice taking pictures on manual using my knowledge of Shutter Speed, ISO, and Aperture which I think I have a good understanding of. My only worry is that I might regret not using Jpeg or Raw for future use. I don't have Photo Shop, so that will be new for me also. Isn't Photo Shop expensive? Anyway I love my Sony Alpha SLT A57K camera, and will continue to take a lot of pictures, which I'm really enjoying now. I will always have this information for future use. I'm really happy that I've gotten as far as I have. I do seem to find myself asking to many questions though. I do appreciate all the input you all have given me. Enjoy hearing your input and conversations. Read the past post I wrote here to explain what I've been doing since my membership in 2012. Thanks again for input. Love this site. Linda
Read the reply I made on my own topic. It's funny that I posted it here. do you think anyone will read it. ha ha
And by the way with all your help and reading Digital Photo Secrets, I have a great understanding of the ISO, Aperture, and Shutter Speed. Its the beginning of a new journey!
Yes, guys I've been a member since 2012, I knew someone would notice and remark on this. ha ha! I am ashamed to say that I signed up for this sight thinking I would move forward with my photography but instead, used my camera for the most part set on Intelligent Auto to take pics on trips and of my 13 grandchildren, so basically taking these photos, downloading them and printing them out on my computer and putting them up on my wall. I am an artist so most of my time I've gotten into my artwork all these years, and my camera sat neglected, waiting for me to begin a new artistic path. Well now I am ready to do just that! So guys this is my story. But now to prove my dedication, I have bought a second battery! I think that is a beginning. I should have shared this before asking so many silly questions, but am so appreciative and greatful for all the support I have received. As to my question today I think I will stick to fine till I know where I'm going with all this new information. You are all great and thank you. I am beginning to love this sight, its a lot of fun reading some of your funny responses to one another!
As a beginner photographer, what setting should you suggest I use, fine, raw or jpeg.
What do these mean? I have a option to Turn Off or set them to Auto.
I've noticed that my sony does not have easy accessability to the settings.
Just now getting what your saying, after asking a question of my next experimentation on photos I took. Thank you.
My QUALITY on my menu is set on FINE not RAW & JPEG.
My lens is a 18-55 mm lens I'm taking a picture of a throw blanket on a stool about 6 ft away. I have my camara set on Intelligent Auto and automatic focus, so I set my lens on 55mm, looks blurry, my zoom button goes from x1.0 to x4.0, so I set it at 4.0. Still looks blurry, press my focus button half way and take the shot and I can see the close up texture of the throw very clear. This is what I guess I'm getting at, I don't notice any noise. That's why I'm asking this question. I get that the zoom button is totally different from the focus length on the lens. But I'm not getting that I can take a very close up picture that is clear without the noise. The explanations that I received are a little over my head but I get that they have two different functions. But why am I capable of doing this is my question now. Thank you for your last explanations.
I have a Sony Alph SLT A57K
I also have not seen any posts on Sony camaras.
