I apologize.
Your are correct.
My bad.

Check your manual.
I believe it says that you can only get 13 RAW shots in the buffer.

ok thanks

Remove the SD card!!!!!

Canon, in it's infinite wisdom, has a relatively slow SD card slot, AND cripples the CF card slot to that same turtle-like speed when an SD card is present. So, you can't take advantage of a super-speed CF card if you have ANY SD card inserted. Incredibly Stupid!!!

Please read the post properly i removed the sd card

Hi all i have just bought 2 x Lexar 32gb 1000x cf cards for my 5D mk III now i have been waiting for ages for these to turn up in the post so until now i have been using my sandisk extreme 32gb 30mb/s sd card with this card my camera said my maximum frames in a burst was 13... so with the Lexar cf card boasting speeds of up to 150mb/s i was expecting the maximum frames in a burst to increase but removing the sd card an inserting the cf card the burst count stayed at 13 even after formatting the cf card. can some one tell me if this correct or not please or have a bought a card advertising a higher speed than it can go. it is a 32gb card or 29.8gb i have checked that but just confused as the the frame burst count. if it helps my iso was 100 shutter speed 1/40 and shooting RAW
Kind regards
Joe.

You are right in thinking that you are getting the black band because of the sync speed issue.

The sync speed on a 5DIII is 1/200 so you are correct in wondering what is happening with the banding. It shouldn't do that.

The 60D has a 1/250 sync speed as you mentioned, which is why you didn't get a black band, you weren't supposed to! :)

I can't explain why your 5D won't go to the sync speed, for what it's worth...many people report that they have to drop the shutter speed down a notch to remove the black banding.

The 600 ex-rt triggers wirelessly or optically, but the wireless system isn't compatible with Elinchron. The wireless synch works fine even at high shutter speeds, but I have no idea why you would want to shoot at high shutter speeds in a studio where lighting is totally under your control. That seems to make no sense.

the issue is when firing the elinchrom flashes not the speedlite. and 1/200 is not that fast and my main subjects are young children so with their tendency to move around alot a slower speed is not that useful

In standard flash mode the 5D MKIII max sync speed is 1/200. With flashes that support High Speed-Sync (HSS) the 1/200 limitation is lifted. I have personally shot 1/1000. The banding you describe certainly sounds like a sync issue. I have never used a elinchrom flash but I suspect there is a compatability issue between the flash/triggers and the camera. To troubleshoot I would eliminate the trigger from the equation and try firing the flash (as long as the voltage is safe for your 5D) via the hotshoe . If that didin't work, I'd try a Canon Flash that supports HSS.

i have a 600 EX-RT flash unit already but this will be no good when out on location as using this would rely on the optical system and i need to radio trigger to get consistency

8-) 8-) 8-) Joe, it is a new body, it takes some effort on your part. Pop your fast-fifty on it and go shoot for a day, week, month, or whatever it takes. Learn the Mk3, it IS different. Some shooters have fits trying to connect with bodies that are not the same. In other words when you are shooting the 60, shoot THAT camera, and when you pick up your Mk3 that is what you are shooting. Shooting with one body while thinking about the other invites problems many people try to avoid. It can be done. Think of it like this: a man can have a wife AND a girlfriend, but he is asking for trouble when he gives the same perfume to each. Keep 'em separated, they are different animals. this is a very cryptic reply. the only reason i can see for the black band happening is the difference in sensor size is this what you are trying to say ?

A week ago i bought a 5D mk iii once i had finished reading the manual i decided to test it out in the studio. now for the last 12 months i have been using a canon 60D and have mostly used the sames settings in the studio 100 ISO 1/200 F9.0. i use elinchrom flashes and use the elinchrom wireless trigger (EL-skyport speed)
now my issue is when i put these exact same setting in to the 5D i get the black band this has never happened with the 60D in fact i can shoot the 60D at 1/250 and still not get the band i have to drop the 5D to 0/125 to get rid of it, is this correct or is there a setting i am forgetting about i just find it odd that i can set a higher sync speed on a 60D than on a 5D mk iii. please help....
thanks
