I Have these flowers that are called Live Forevers and year after year I get hordes and hordes of Bumble Bees, Wasp, Carpenter Bees, Skipper Butterflies the Skipper Butterflies are a large abundance of these guy’s. My yard use to be flooded with all these
insects but I noticed in the last two years the numbers have dropped significantly. Canon R5, Canon RF 100mm Macro Lens ISO 100 Camera set @ F 11 shutter @ 125s Induro Tripod, I use a large Flash point Ring Light where the camera mounts on rails and the Lens comes through the ring it is a very powerful light I purchased it from Adorama Camera. I shoot only in manual. And use the light for fill. I keep getting the black above and under because I have all my pics stored on my I Phone.

I too have noticed the sharp reduction in insects going back 4ish years, the other issues is when they show up has changed as well......does not bode well me thinks.....

It's been my flash for years, and it is very good although pricey. I have the Kuangren model, but that is the same as the Venus model. Like sippyjug I recommend to tie together the arms in order to better stabilize them. You can use a number of light-weight bowls for diffusers (Chinese instant soup bowls, etc). Information about the external battery port is a well-hidden secret, apparently, but I was told that mine is the Canon CP-E4N (=CP-E4), & many external battery packs work with that.

Appreciate your input…..

I use it all of the time. I rig homemade diffusers for it. It give you lots of control over the light. I am surprised at how well it has held up.

Thanks for the response

Napabob, I have that flash and I use it for macro in the field. Like any flash used for macro and closeup work, diffusion is highly important for the flash heads are quite close to the subject.

It is a manual flash, so there is no TTL communication. The heads can be dialed to different flash speeds and the focus aid light can be turned on or off as desired. It uses four AA batteries and I have not found an external powerpack for it. I get several hundred flashes and I most often set mine at 1/8 flash duration.

The bendy arms are handy although the wires are inside them so take care not to get too radical in bending them. The heads also rotate a bit and I do not recommend doing that for concern of the connecting wires which may twist and pull apart inside the bendy arms.

All in all, it's quite handy. The bendy arms are long so they may get in the way when shooting in cluttered areas of plants and limbs.

Yes, someone has built a better mouse trap, and this is it. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09WK69Y2Q/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It seems that Amazon no longer has these, but I'm sure they'll have more soon. They're plastic and easy to operate, so you can wash and reuse them. They have a small, removable bait cup. Remove the cup, add peanut butter, and put it back into the trap. The big advantage is ease of setting. Place the trap on the floor and push down on the setting pad. Done!

I leave two or three around the house, and my dog checks them occasionally. If there is a mouse in one, he removes it and brings it to me. Seriously.
