Thanks; we're doing Sedona, then Petrofied Forest, then Canyon de Chelly, then Monument Valley, then Arches, Bryce and Zion. Will only have one day in Canyon de Chelly, so I'm thinking of trying to get an early morning 4-hour tour, then the hike, then the south drive. Sound good?

Thank you. I have contacted Mr. Yazzie to see if we can get an early am half day tour as the light should be more favorable then. I'm thinking of doing the hike after lunch and then the drive at the end of the day on the way to Monument Valley. Does that sound like a good plan to you?

Can anyone recommend a tour operator that best accomodates photographers? The tours I've seen on-line are either at 9:00 am, mid-day or 4:00 pm, not good times for photography. Also, would a 4-hour tour be a better choice and do the tours go to essentially the same sites?

These are excellent and I think they would look nice printed on canvas and hung together with light wood frames. We'll be doing Nuremberg to Budapest with Viking in August and wonder what software/post processing you did on your photos?

Trying to decide how long to spend in Monument Valley. Initial thought is to take an early morning guided tour then do the 4-mile loop trail mid-day then drive do the 17-mile drive in the late afternoon then drive to Mexican Hat that night for lodging. Is that a good plan for photography?

I have the 55-210 lens and wonder if you can explain how to use the "clear image zoom". Thank you. Bill

Last time I took my car off road in Anzo Berrego State Park I bent the motor cover, so I think I'll stay to as many paved roads this time as possible. Thanks

Sounds like something I don't want to attempt with my passenger automobile! The hardest part of planning this trip is deciding what is doable with my vehicle and how much time to spend in each location as there is so much to see and photograph. Will have to buy an extra high capacity card for this trip! Thanks again for all the useful information.

That's good advice as I'm always chasing the right light at the right time. Laurent Martres has written various books on photographing the entire southwest which are excellent. He says there are many excellent Puebloan sites in Cedar Mesa so I am considering going there too. Have you been there?

Good story. Right now I'm thinking it would be good to do the south drive early in the morning, then the hike to the White House Ruins, then a late afternoon 3 hour tour. What do you think?
My girlfriend is part Cherokee and I have always been intrigued by Indian culture having been brought up in former Iroquois territory so we're both really looking forward to seeing and photographing the canyon and then on to Monument Valley which we'll probably drive, then to Grand Staircase-Escalante, and then Bryce. Don't know whether Capitol Reef, Arches or Canyonlands would add much or which one(s) would be best?
Thanks for your very helpful input.

Thanks. Couldn't decide whether to take the guided tour, but I'm after dramatic landscape shots here so I'm thinking just driving would be best.

At Monument Valley, I have taken the guided tour and also did the drive myself. On the guided tour, you see a few places that you are not allowed to go by yourself, but it does not cover all the places that you can go on your own due to time constraints on the tour. I would suggest the drive yourself yourself plan, but both are good. Sights that you will see nowhere else.

thanks; good advice. Bill
