I want to thank everyone here for their contributions on the issue of whether or not blurred images are ever ok. The main reason I asked was a photograph (B&W) made by an AFP photographer in Syria. The subject was a young man (out of focus) who tried to seek cover as bombardments of the area were taking place. The blurred image was extremely powerful as it captures the absolute chaos and fear in the moment. The blur added to the drama as though the whole scene was a picture of a nightmare that the young man wanted but couldn't wake up from - we've all been there. So my two cents after reading all the comments here is that blurred images sometimes enhance the story. Sometimes being the operative word here. Thx again all.

Maybe this has been asked before here, but I'd be interested in hearing from forum members what criteria make a blurred image a good or acceptable one?
Thanks for the input (in advance).

Vinnie, thanks for your emphatic (all caps!) libertarian response. It made me smile.! And of course it's all a matter of taste in the end. I'm actually not sure I'd put this on my wall (maybe in my office). The pic was taken from a video taken with my iPhone so it wasn't the greatest quality in the first place. I took it through program that "ages" your picture and turned it into sepia (nah!) and then B&W.
Don't know if anyone here is interested in this factual tidbit: this windmill is located in Soest, a small town not far from Utrecht (center of Holland). It's in a protected nature reserve called the Utrechtse Heuvelrug (the Utrecht ridge if you will). If you look real hard at the tree to the left you'll see a small fence. In that location, years ago, the remains of a kneeling male were found, the oldest human inhabitant connected to Holland. The gravesite is estimated to be at least 10,000 years old!
Anyway, it doesn't do anything for the pic, but it makes for an interesting tidbit at least!

Brokeweb: I applaud you for trying out the HDR process. At first glance, some of the colors just jump out at you almost in a 3-D sense, which I guess is one of the effects desired. I've never tried it myself, but kudos if this is your first attempt!
May I suggest one thing? If you plan to go back to this location, you might hold the camera closer to the ground - in essence shooting "up" at the building. Using a wide angle lens might you assist you in creating the illusion of angles towards both sides bringing the center of the photo closer top you. And that's where the effects are after all. Just a suggestion. Keep it up!

Took this thing through a couple of programs. It's a real photograph actually taken with my iPhone. Does anybody think you can go overboard with post-production and is that the case here? (Think print on wall though.)

Thanks Shane and Marc. I went to this particular McD's quite by accident on a Saturday morning and there is this guy, playing some songs of off sheet music. Not loud or disruptive and he was very cool about my taking some photos. As you may have seen in my profile I'm a pro musician myself and I'm always interested in anyone who's out there playing his/her axe and especially the blues.

Thx Billybuzz - he's a Yorkiepoo and the naughtiest (in a good way) dog I've ever owned. He's a tiny dog, but a big presence!
