I am going to visit family in Illinois, Pontiac area, next month. I live in Denver and am planning on driving out through Kansas on I70. Does anyone have any suggestions on places to do some landscape or wildlife photography?
I’m also going up 55 in Illinois. Would welcome suggestions for that drive also.
Thanks for any suggestions you might have.
Have a great day!

Go ON LINE and Google "KANSAS STATE PARKS" and it will give you a lot on information showing a lot of interesting places to visit in Kansas. It also shows a horizontal line across Kansas that represents I-70. If you can get a Kansas road map you will be able to see places along the way that are fairly close to I-70. In the past 20 years I have made one, two and three day trips with my camera and long lens to different parts of Kansas. I have photographed Bison/Buffalo, deer, wild turkeys, fox, coyotes, swans. pelicans, snow geese, other water fowl, Pheasants, Golden Eagles, Turkey Vultures, Prairie Chickens, a Red Fox with little ones, a colony of Raccoons and a Badger. On a few other trips I did not see much wildlife. Take your binoculars with you.

I would like to hear what those who have bought this lens and what they think about it. Yes, it is not lightweight at 3.27 lbs but see many reviews that are hand-holding it for pictures. I see that it was released in 2018 so it's not an old lens. What do you all think and those of you who have one, how often do you use it, and what type of photography? Would you buy it again or recommend it?

I don't know if it is worth making a comparison between the II and the III everything else being the same, the Canon EF II lens is a very good lens so I would assume the III is also a very good lens. I used the II lens for getting some pictures of an 8 man football game in a small town in Kansas. Lighting of the field was marginal/poor. But I got fairly good pictures with f2.8, 1/500, ISO 6400, 190mm and 200mm. Also got good depth of field. And still had to edit pictures with Adobe Elements.

As like many folks who are into WW II military aircraft, my favorite is the P-51 Mustang.

The first photos are of the P-51 C model. This plane belongs to the Collins group in Florida and has been spectacularly restored. The C model was actually slightly faster than the D model that followed. The D model was primarily introduced for one reason....the outward visibility was better because of the " bubble " canopy it had. In air combat, the sooner and better you could spot an opponent, the better your chances of making back home.

The P-51 D Mustang shown belongs to a guy in Jacksonville who has given me rides in that bad boy. It is, undoubtedly, the most visceral experience I've ever had in an airplane.

Excellent photos. Do you have any idea as to how many P-51 (F-51) planes were restored? I got a few pictures of this plane back in 2017 when it was visiting the Olathe, KS New Century Airport (Originally the Olathe Naval Air Station), This plane has the "bubble" canopy and this picture is of the plane landing after giving a paying customer a ride.

I can never capture the moon as it looks. Any suggestions?

I used my Canon 70 D using manual focus settings: 400mm, f9, 1/125, iso 250, pattern focus, trypod, remote shutter release. Cropped photo using adobe photoshop elements. I have used other settings but check my exposure meter in camera for all settings.

Hi Frank,

Happy Easter.

Would you be willing to ship the printer to me if I paid for the shipping?
I live in Richmond VA 23233.

Thank you.

Harold

You can have it if you want to pay for the shipping. I will need to find a box and some of the bubble packing for protection. However, I am going to be delayed in doing it because I am scheduled for surgery Monday which is going to put me on the disabled/recovery list for about tree weeks. My email address is wickloh@gmail.com. If you are still interested in getting it three weeks from now send me an e-mail and I will check out the shipping cost with UPS. You might check to see if you can still get the epson ink for this Epson Stylus Photo R 1800. I have the software disk for this printer for your computer. It works good, but needs a real cleaning. I was told it would cost as much as a new printer to have it professionally cleaned.

I bought an Epson Stylus R 1800 photo printer a few years back. It printed beautiful pictures at first. Then i had all the problems already described by other users, clogged nozzels, dry ink inside printer that self cleaning by printer would not ameliorate/correct the problems. It has been sitting on a corner desk collecting dust and I am going to throw it into the trash barrel next week.

So the landscape and the moon were taken at the same time with the same large MM lens?
John

Yes. I was using my Canon 70 D and my lens was a Canon EF 100-400 4.5-5.6 L IS II USM

I have seen pictures with a landscape or city scape where the moon seems overly large, not in scale to everything else. How is this accomplished?
John

I was a long distance from the areas in the foreground of the photographs with the moon in the background and then I cropped the photo.
