I purchased Proshow Gold on its last day but never seemed to get anywhere with it. Can it still work or did it become inoperable when the company closed?

It still works. I had used previous versions of ProShow Gold and when I discovered they were moving to a subscription-based service, I upgraded to the latest version with various add-ons. I only recently installed it on a laptop for my wife to use to create a multimedia slide show for a memorial service for a family friend and ProShow Gold worked fine.

I'm back to searching for a Laptop PC (not Mac) for photo use. I ordered a MSI Creator series from XOTIC PC - and the mousepad was dead on arrival. The fan was also very loud. It is being returned.

Any recommendations? I'm running Capture One and Affinity Photo with large (40M) files, and my existing (old) Lenovo Think Pad gets bogged down.

I've looked at the Dell XPS 15, but concerned that the graphics card is not powerful enough.

Thanks...

Don't put too much emphasis on a graphic card. For photo editing all, you need is the ability to output the appropriate resolution via HDMI or display port to a suitable monitor. Gaming with high frame rates and 3D rendering are a different matter, but editing photos is not very demanding. Spend the $ on memory and fast storage.

Check to see if you have Acronis True Image installed. My Lightroom sliders won't function until I turn off 'Acronis Active Protection Service' - which you can do from the taskbar icon for Acronis. This resolved the problem immediately.

Before you give up on your search, here's one more item to consider - the Mountainsmith Kit Cube Micro Camera Bag: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EWNJ7EQ/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_17?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ADP1I4ZKQNKOW When I go snowshoeing, I like to use the Cotton Carrier harness to secure my camera on my chest for easy access. https://www.amazon.com/Cotton-Carrier-Camera-Harness-Gray/dp/B07476FDRT/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1518115256&sr=8-6&keywords=Cotton+Carrier

Funny, I've never read or viewed a report where the 5D III was rated better than the D810! Guess we see different reviews! You might want to take a look at this one by a known 5D III enthusiast: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VR7Kjeq2aH4&feature=youtu.be

BTW the 5D III is on sale: http://www.adorama.com/l/Cameras/Digital-SLR-Cameras?sf=Price&sel=Model_Canon-5D-Mark-III&term=canon-eos-5d-mark-iii&ShowMsg=t

I expect prices to drop a lot more when the 5D IV is announced.

FYI: The Canon 5D Mark III was the Popular Photography Camera of the Year for 2012 - beating out the Nikon D800. Since the D810 is a pretty minor upgrade to the D800, I think the 5D Mark III holds it's own quite well- especially among working professionals who prefer the controls of the Canon - and don't spend as much time pixel peeping.

Beyond Compare is a very powerful program that allows you to sync folders and files (even cells in two Excel spreadsheets). I use it a great deal at work. In order to have it sync automatically, you need to create a script and have it run via Windows scheduler. Other sync programs - such as GoodSync have a built in scheduler that can be set for a desired number of minutes or hours - or whenever a file gets added to a folder.
