Now if Adobe, ON1 and all the other post software companies made apps for Virtual Reality goggles we could all buy those then argue about who does the best PRE processing software.

I think so much depends on each traveler's interests. What some people like and shot may be way different.
As for what lenses to take, again, that depends on their style of shooting also. People should really get to know their lenses and what they provide in terms of coverage.
They should have some idea of what may be at the destination like wide vistas, narrow streets, mountains, valleys, and such. If not, research it. There's a ton of information on the net about places, including many Google images, albeit mainly from main roads, but a lot of people have posted images from places not on the main road. Also one can simply Google "what to see in <city>". Smaller towns may be a bit shy on information on the net though. Then one can figure out what they want to see/photograph.
And of course for the occasional "trip", one could always ask here under "General Photography Discussion". I don't see a ton of that. It seems to go in spurts. Many people here display images of their travels in The Gallery.

Actually that all sounds like good reasons to endorse the section.

In response to th OP's post, I would definitely subscribe to a travel section. My wife and I are always looking for places to get out to for a week or a long weekend and I would very much be interested in what other hoggers found both appealing and disappointing about a location.

You don't hear much about it anymore, but "acid rain" was a big concern in the late '70s and '80s.

The two things I would try next: First try using a different multiple outlet strip, especially if the one you are using provides noise/spike protection. If that doesn't help, try moving computer and monitor to a different room to get on a different circuit in your house.

You mentioned at least one of your computers is a laptop. If the battery is installed in the laptop it will run off battery as soon as power is dropped to the power brick. Can you determine if the laptop is running on battery or power supply when the monitor fails?

I'd appreciate suggestions on free, user friendly post processing programs that have been effective for your images. I'm a hobbyist and don't want to invest in Lightroom on a monthly basis. Or if there is a one time fee for a program, that would be considered. I have a Mac Air. Thanks in response to your suggestions!

You may want to make mention about what you actually want to do in post processing and what types of images you want to process. if you are just doing basic contrast/brightness/tone on .jpg images there are a hundred free editors that would likely suit your needs. For that matter, the software that came with your camera would be a great place to start. If you are processing raw images, the field narrows down a bit, and narrows even more if you want to perform more complex processing.

Can't wait to see where this new section goes. Looking forward to seeing fresh ideas on how to use and add lighting to a scene.

The real question may be 'How much will people pay for that camera?' Looking up auctions on e-bay or craig's list will give you an idea of what people will pay for it, then you can decide if you still want to sell the camera.

I have done that and they suggested that I download a TLS2 (?) file to update my system. It seems to have done the trick.

So are you saying the problem is now resolved after loading the suggested filr from Adobe?

"... the tech was very wrong..." Really? Do you realize that some of the "Things" the support tech advised you to do may have actually resolved the issue? Having worked as a Support Software Technician for a major accounting application used by DOE I've seen/heard it all Steven... Government employees can at times seem to believe that it is the Support Tech's fault that they didn't read the documentation or follow appropriate procedures.

Before you slam a group of hard working Tech's walk a mile in their shoes...

The Tech told you to bring the the printer in to repair... Since you refused and decided to go for the alternative of replacing it (you choice not the Tech's choice) you're pissed because of replacement costs (which are totally out of the Tech's hands).

btw, why didn't you recycle *power off/on* the printer in the first place before calling "Support"?

FYI: Support Tech's are under huge pressure to "Turn" the support call as quickly as practical especially when the queue gets long... Way too many factors in the mix here....

Besides how much were you charged for the support call Steven? Yep End User's want everything for free...
The design life of your Epson 3880? Think about this Steven...

All the best on your journey Steven...

1st, I think the composition is pretty awesome. I personally would like to see the foothills immediately surrounding the lake get a color boost so the contrast between the vegetation and rock is more apparent - it looks a little muddy as is. I really like the color of the water - it looks clean and clear, not dirty or green

If it were my image, what I would take most out of it is what I would do different when I went back to reshoot. I think if it were reshot as several images with the focus changing from the flowers in the very foreground to the mountains in back, then focus stacked to show an unlimited depth of field you would have a true masterpiece.

I much prefer the 1st image. Like Cwilson I like the water in the foreground. I also feel the colors are more vibrant; the 2nd image looks kind of washed out in comparison. But mostly I like the way the cabin stands alone as the hero in the 1st image without makeup or framing. Even though the age and some neglect is apparent, you can still imagine bringing it back to life and making it livable again.

Agree 100%. But how many of those images would withstand being printed as a 24" portrait?

That lens has mostly lived on my Nikon for the last few years. Have a 55-300 when a little longer reach is needed. Those are nice shots you took there. Hope you enjoy your new lens.
