Just to pile on…

I saw on another forum someone was looking for a Z mount macro lens. Checking B&H, I only found one, and not a Nikkor at that.

So the choices are either FTZ with F mount lenses, or extension tubes with Z mount lenses...or this third party lens.

Nikon makes a 50mm and 105mm Z macro lens.

Changes from Firmware Version 1.00 to 1.10
• Added support for linear focus ring rotation during manual focus: when an option other than [Non-linear] is selected for [Focus ring rotation range] * in the camera [CUSTOM SETTINGS MENU], rotating the ring the selected amount takes focus from the minimum distance to infinity regardless of rotation speed.
• Added support for [Switch focus/control ring roles] * in the camera [CUSTOM SETTINGS MENU].
* As of August 2022, this feature is available with the Z 9 (from camera “C” firmware version 2.00), the Z 7II (from camera “C” firmware version 1.40), and the Z 6II (from camera “C” firmware version 1.40).

Mirrorless cameras have viewfinders just like the DSLR cameras. It is electronic rather than done with mirrors. You do not have to use the LCD to take the photos.

I browse in Photoshop Bridge and if I see one that is special it can be selected and processed.

Shooting in crop mode and cropping are the same and do not extend the reach of the lens. They do make the subject larger in the photo but with a loss of resolution and less pixels.

The Z9 does not have a focus motor in the body so you are limited to using lens with focus motors for AF. I am keeping my D500 because it is still Nikons best crop body and it has a focus motor for the lens without focus motors.

I have a D500 and use a Tamron 150-600 lens. What tripod would you recommend? Needs to be lightweight but sturdy, also budget friendly? Also - recommend ballhead, gimbal or whatever you think is best. Preferably a portable tripod to fit in backpack…but doesn’t need to be.

Slik 700DX Pro Tripod Legs $200 and a Jobu Design BWG-J3K Jobu Jr.3 Gimbal Kit with Swing-Arm HM-J2 $338 from B&H. Very steady and I use it with a D6 and a Sigma 150-600mm Sport lens.

I have a canon 100-400L II lens that I use on my EOS R & 7Dii. I purchased a canon 1.4 converter V-III but am finding the images are very soft. (extremely disappointed). I’ve tried upping the shutter speed etc. but still soft focus on all images. The mentioned lens used as is takes perfectly sharp images. Any way to solve this issue?

Have you calibrated the camera with the teleconverter on it?

Advice on how to best photograph hummingbirds

Please do not use the red dyed nectar. The dye is bad for the Hummingbirds. Make your own nectar with 1 part sugar and 4 parts water.

Does anyone using a gimbal head put a spotting scope on it? I use my tripod equally between my camera and my spotting scope. Thanks.

I have used my Nikon EDG 85 VR Fieldscope and Nikon FSA-L2 adapter for a Nikon camera on a gimbal head and it works just fine.

Many thanks. EXIFtool.exe installed without problem. Simple to bypass Microsoft Defender, not necessary to turn it off.
Drag and Drop works with SONY Raw files (ARW).
4th and 6th lines from the bottom of the file provide the angle of view and focus distance information.
Lots of other data.
Excellent tip.

Is the focus distance measured from the front of the lens or the sensor? Some zoom lens move the front element.
