[quote=fourlocks]Hey that's no joke. When I was working for a local health department, our public health lab ran swab tests on restaurant bathroom door handles and found e Coli bacteria (human fecal bacteria) on them.

Good point!
A few months back I read an article (I think it was in CR), that the air in most restaurant bathrooms is the dirtiest of all rooms. They then went on to say that all air blowers used in bathrooms just pull air in from the bottom of the blower inside the bathroom and not from the outside!
I stopped using air dryers when I looked under a couple of blowers and saw the intake grille.
Since that day, I only use paper towels.

Does Oregon enforce that law? Arizona has (had?) a similar law but in the 9 years I lived there I never saw it enforced.

Good point Rich.

What really happens is people behind the slow folks are not adverse to educate them on the law requirements by laying on their horn after everybody passes a frequent sign which says "slow cars are required to pull over whenever there are 3 or more cars behind them".

People soon learn to use the pullouts, especially the out-of-staters that drive the big RVs.

Like I said, the highway department needs to construct pullouts or signs won't work.

As for a law, I have no idea if there is a specific law on the books but the signs say there is. The signs are what makes the system work.
Everyone reads the darn things and lays on their horn when someone in front passes the signs and is holding people up behind them.
Even if they are going the speed limit, they need to pull over when they are backing people up.

Up here in the north in the summertime there's not much worse then getting behind a camper with Florida tags on a two lane highway. No place to go and all the time in the world to get there.

I agree with you LFingar. You might want to consider having a law like here in Oregon where if a car is not driving the speed limit it is required to pull over to let others pass when more than 3 cars are backed up behind it.
Of course that requires the state Hwy Dept. (out here its called ODOT, for Oregon etc...) when they build 2 lane highways in the sticks to have 'pullouts' every mile or so when the highways don't have good places to pass.
While ODOT is a state bureaucracy they do try to keep the highways in good repair.

That also means an education program for out of state drivers, too.

[quote=margaretnewell]Has anyone updated to Catalina yet, and if so have you noticed any photographic glitches.

I just updated last night and found that I had to wait for all the photos in my Mac to become available (took about 30 minutes) after I started using Catalina.

Also Apple gives you a list of programs that need to be upgraded to 64 bit after it loads Catalina.

My biggest frustration was losing my desktop background photo which meant I had to go back in my photo library to 2009 and reload it.
Works, and looks, fine now.

Hey Architect;
Do you remember the ditty back in the 60s titled "Jose Cuervo, he is a friend of mine"?

It's hard to get it out of your mind when something like your post reminds me of the words.

I remember the last lines very well "Do I know Jose Cuervo?
Sh*t, I had lunch with him!!!!

Thanks for the memories. I love your photo!

Might be the last chance for some of us - they are quite rare, and harder to see with the increasing light pollution.

Thanks Andy;
Here is some interesting information about "night vision goggles" and Northern lights.
About 20 years ago I was in Billings, Montana to inspect the use of night vision goggles in a new model helicopter. For info, each aircraft model had to be individually approved to fly using 'goggles'. All of our testing was done inside a hangar so any outside light wouldn't affect the testing.

Well, when I went outside the hangar about 10 o'clock at night, it was dark and I could not see any northern lights. When I put the goggles on, WOW, was I surprised. They Northern lights we easily visible.
If anyone has night vision goggles, you might try using them at locations even South of where the predicted visibility is expected. You might be able to enjoy the 'lights'.

In the 50s in Mt. Prospect, Illinois it wasn't unusual to see Northern lights. Pretty commonplace actually.

I'm now going to investigate how to do the same. I always thought that bookmarks were forever. My mistake. Too many good tunes by Miles et al to not have them instantly hearable!!

I remember you once mentioned Birdland and it brought back memories of going there during the 64 worlds fair and seeing a piano player but for the life of me I cannot remember his name. I was only in town for three days as I lived in Hermosa beach, CA. when the Lighthouse was the west coast equivalent of Birdland.

Thanks Mark. Always love your posts.

Now a question please.
I went to save this video in my 'Bookmarks' folder and found out that some of my older Miles Davis You Tube 'saves' are no longer available as the video has been discontinued.

Where do you save your jazz videos so they can be listened to 6 months or more later?

Thanks
Alex
