I sit here and read these threads and the comments from folks like tschmath who hate people saying to enforce existing gun laws and to offer a suggestion for something different. Ok, but first a question, do you realize that a background check would have done nothing in the case of the Newtown shootings? Adam Lanza did not own the guns he used, he took them after killing his mother. All of the checks in the world would not have helped since his mother protected him and he flew under the radar. BTW, his mother passed all of the Conn. checks that were some of the most restrictive in the country at the time. You want a law that will make a difference? Try a 10 or 15 year mandatory prison sentence for ANYONE convicted of a crime using a gun. No pleas, probation, nothing. Do the crime and you are gone, goodby. Here in Md we now have probably the most restrictive AW ban in the country. Will it help? Probably not, it only further takes away the rights of law abiding citizens. You can't legislate complete safety, there is no stopping the random acts of a madman bent on getting his moment of fame from the media.

Anything is possible. Past confiscations were just that, in the past. I think today people are more knowledgable, determined and wary of their governments to obey certain wrongs. But of course the time is always on the government's side. All it would take would be to brainwash the young to change their values and create a nice herd of sheep that will be all for the confiscation. Another ploy would be to do it slowly, a bit at a time. Each time appealing to a certain agreeable segment of the people. Because a total immediate confiscation would be completely out of the question, as it may lead to a civil war.

Because they are afraid of their shadows. They are afraid of anyone, anything that is different from them-in looks, in thinking, in politics, in philosophy. They think the world they know is coming to an end. And they would be correct. But instead of finding the good in the new thinking, they run and hide and think the sky is falling. And those that want power for themselves use this to their advantage. Rush and the NRA and others of that thinking have made mega fortunes on the fears of others. They live high on the hog and don't worry about tomorrow while their followers hide and talk about how the govt. is out to get them because Rush said it was so. They don't think for themselves and so are prey to those who would use them for profit. And they will deny all this of course. jmo
