My paper maps are around 24" square.

The paper map shows the big picture, where the others just show you the local area.

But the electronic maps can be expanded to a resolution around 200' per inch so you can see details.

I use and like both formats.

Exactly, DirtFarmer!!
My wife gets frustrated by my need to have a paper map to get the 'big picture' but I like it that way.
As for what's in the door pockets, thats for dog biscuits.

I had never heard of this. Amazing nature.
Fern Zalin in Santa Clarita Valley, California, captured this image on December 5 and wrote: "Acorn woodpeckers have made this huge old Valley Oak into a granary tree, stashing thousands and thousands of acorns as high as I could see." Acorn woodpeckers can be found in the North American West, and in Mexico and Central America. They harvest acorns directly from oak trees, then store the nuts in individually drilled holes in one or more trees, known as "granaries." A single tree may be carrying 50,000 stored nuts!

Wonderful photo Samantha!
Unfortunately, woodpeckers will also destroy buildings by drilling into the wood and depositing acorns into those holes. Our barn has about 15 holes drilled by Woodpeckers (some as large as 5" in diameter) and now we are getting prices to cover the barn with metal siding which will cost us around 11K.

I have vacuumed up at least a 5 gallon bucket of acorns from the floor of the barn every year for the last 5-10 years and all my attempts to scare them away with owls, flags, etc. have not discourages them in the least.

I sure wish I could teach them how to determine the difference between a barn and a tree!

[quote=StanMac]What devices, other than phones, use micro-SD cards directly? Just curious.

I believe all of the GoPro cameras use micro-SD cards and many U-tube videos are recorded on micro cards.

Those were the days for me as well......I loved those old radios and that was our life back in the day.

I totally agree with "That was our life back in the day"
I was stationed at Ft. Bragg in the late 50s and our motor pool had a power pole and when I placed my portable little transistor radio next to the pole, all of a sudden I could pick up a couple of Chicago stations. So while I watched out for the 'Guard jeep' I could stand next to the pole and hear the latest rock & roll songs and 'Jam with Sam' out of Chicago.

I found this wonderful article about how an English village has created a way for Hedgehogs to move about during the night. I love how so many people have gotten together for the benefit of the Hedgehogs.

Many thanks for posting that link.

Something enjoyable to fill my days while the covid is keeping me house bound.

There are many photos of places I saw/visited over the years but never knew how they looked during their 'production' years like the Sikorsky/Vought plant where my old boss worked. He told me how he added the railroad tracks to the production line for the corsairs during the war. Now I have a better image of what it was like when he worked there.

This is odd. I am running OS X 10.5.7 and using Safari version 14.0 and I have had no change in any of my favorites or other bookmarks. You might try checking this in Safari -> Preferences -> General tab. see attachment

Thanks Bob,
My favorites show the same thing as your screen shot.

The problem was/is that I liked using a separate screen which kept tiles of all my frequently accessed sites, like news sites, Bored Panda, etc. I gained access to this location by clicking on bookmarks and when it asked where I wanted to send an attachment it had a location titled 'Top Sites' which was at the top of the bookmarks list.

That is what has disappeared since 10.15.6. Nothing has happened to my favorites sites but the location called Top Sites has disappeared.
If you never used 'Top Sites' nothing would have changed for you but Manglesphoto and I obviously did use it and it has disappeared and Apple has substituted a reading list screen which is where I can direct my tiles but they are now tiny tiles and almost unreadable because of their size or my old eyes, and non-moveable.

Frustrating for two of us at least. I'm hoping others that have experienced this change will help get it corrected.

Updated My OS 10.15.7 and Safari yesterday, but The Safari update is screwing with bookmark favorite screen.
Before the up date I had all my favorites displayed as Tiles/buttons , now only 24 of them are showing as tiles everything else is in the list , which I find a bit difficult to read.
Can anybody shed some light on this.
PLEASE NO maybe its this or that, I have tried every thing I can fine in the help menu and on the internet.
Thank you in advance.
Frank

You're not alone. When 10.15.6 was updated I lost all of the 'Top Sites' I had previous saved. In fact, I have no Top Sites in my Bookmark system now.
Under bookmarks I'm having to use the 'Add to Reading List' which shows up on a screen that now replaces 'Top Sites'. Apple support will not help as it was a deliberate modification to their system when they eliminated Top Sites.
I'm with you, as to the tiles being hard to read. The reading list screen now give small tiles and they cannot be moved around plus the size makes them difficult to read. Apple should go back to 10.15.5 so we can enjoy the original tile system and bring back the method of allowing us to move the tiles in a different position on the screen. This Apple update is the only one I ever had that makes using IOS more difficult, not easier.
Yesterday Apple came out with 10.15.7 and because it came out so soon after 10.15.6 I thought 'Good, they realized they made a mistake by dropping Top Sites and this update will correct it'. I was wrong, it's still bad.

I've been watching YouTube on my TV lately. Some amazing stuff! And I don't mean kitten videos.

Tell us why you made the switch Jerry and what YouTube gives you versus TV. I am interested in doing the same but need information to discuss with the wife.
If I've hijacked the original thread with my question, I apologize.

I take my old drives apart to retrieve their powerful head moving magnet.
Those magnets hold lot of paper. :-)

I also use the magnets with a Zip tie thru the hole to wave it along a wall and find the drywall screw heads so I can hang a picture easily. It's small, and so much faster than using stud finders. You'd be amazed how powerful those magnets are.

The real bitch here is items in foam protective. So when you slice the carton open with box cutters you slash through any manuals and cables that might have been outside the foam. Or put a serious scratch through the item itself if it was a little too close to the outside.

I too see the problem of using box cutters on cartons so I suggest getting away from them.
It brings to mind what I did as a teenager in the 50s when working for a company who supplied all the cigarettes and candy to stores in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago, we all used pocket knives to open everything and by placing your thumb about 8-10mm or 1/4" away from the tip of the blade. You can open most any carton and not damage the contents that way.

I luv your pics - and the casually informative narratives - when you shot the pics has nothing to do with what I am looking at and enjoying almost daily. Thanks for the entertainment. I have not seen one of today's birds before. Smart little bird.

Delderby said exactly what needed to be said. I too have never seen a Black Phoebe. Nice to be educated so pleasantly.
Your narratives are spot on, and as for the slugs who would think it's OK to snip about new or old photos your can relegate their comments to the attic.

Keep doing what many of us find educational and enjoyable!

Thanks again for your posts.

I sure wish that was true but I was paid 50 cents an hour in 1955 working at a Pizza place in Mt. Prospect, ILL.
Do you think I can sue them for the difference???

Boy, with inflation, wouldn't I be a rich fella today???
