Don't have any advice on programs but I would recommend you get a burner with Blu-ray capabilities. It will make a difference in both video and slide shows.

I am currently looking at purchasing a program to make videos out of all the pictures I take for sports and for graduation videos. I have a MAC computer...OS X Yosemite ..10.10.5 version..3.2 Ghz Intel Core I5...
Would love some feed back on both. I 've looked at Roxio and they have a program for Mac computers it's called Toast 14 Titanium..ALso need to purchase a DVD burner to copy DVD's on. Would also appreciate suggestions on this as well. Thanks, in advance!

I like this one. It is pretty simple.

I don't do a lot of video, but have recently begun using a quad copter for aerial photography. I have Lightroom and Photoshop 5, but don't have a good standalone program for video editing. I'm wondering if anyone might have suggestions for software that I could use to do some basic editing without a steep learning curve.

You want bears? We never saw anything like Brooks Falls at Katmai NP when the salmon were running. We had fifteen brown bears at the falls at the same time.

Looks like I will not be heading back out on Safari in Africa this year but instead putting together a trip to Alaska. I have never been there and want to make the most of the opportunities to photography wildlife and great scenery. I'm planning on about 3 weeks of travel time. For years I've watch many documentaries on TV and now would like to hear from those of you who have inside information. Will probably be traveling end of July through August. Thanks

What exactly were you looking for that these pictures were missing?

I appreciate very much everyone's suggestions, all were helpful. I will try to post a couple of the shots. I pretty much will continue using my 70-200, but wanted to see what the 50 will do. Will keep the lens but won't use it for sports much.

I respectfully disagree. I was using this lens with a D300 in poorly lit high school gyms. I was able to set it at 1.8 and then adjust my shutter speed and ISO for great results. It does, however, depend on where you are setting up for the shoot. I was close to the baseline and halfway between the basket and sideline. It allowed me to set a faster shutter speed and really freeze the action. If shooting from the stands the lens would not produce the same results.

What you are experiencing is related to your camera settings. Why did you buy the 50mm lens? Test it's ability by using it for the intended purpose. The other lenses you have are good sport lenses. A 50mm is very limited in that regard.

Try back button focusing. That way you are in control of the focus. You do not need a different lens. This one will do every thing you need.

Finally broke down and got my "nifty fifty", a 1.8. (wanted the others, but didn't want to spend the money.) Took it to shoot a highschool basketball game last night, and did not have good luck. There seem to be a delay between when I pushed the shutter and when the camera took the photo. I am used to shooting with my 24-70 (2.8) and my 70-200 (2.8) with their quick release. Did I get a defective lens, or am I just getting what I paid for? (all plastic and inexpensive). Should I take it back and exchange for a 1.4? Will I get a better result? I am shooting a D700 at ISO 6400. The shots I took are properly exposed, just late.

I used this lens with my D300 for five years and got great results. I camped along the baseline in a small cramped poorly lit high school gym and it was fast and sharp. Not sure what is wrong with yours but I used mine for exactly what you are doing and was very pleased.

I have the 24-70 on my D810 75% of the time. The combination really works well in low light and produces great images. And as MT Shooter says it allows you to crop and still maintain excellent quality.

Hello, I am going to a Christmas party and was wanting some opinions on which lens might be the best to take. I just purchased the Nikon D810 and only have had it a few days and haven't really had a chance to shoot both lenses. It will be indoors and have no clue about the lighting and not wanting to take a flash, so I am leaning toward the 24-70. Anyone have any experience with this lens on an 810?
Thanks.

You don't say what you are using it for but I like this one if you are recording specific people. They also make one for two mics.

It was thanks to UHH a casual mention of a local camera store led me to find a place relatively close. Photo Connection in Colchester CT has everything I need at prices very close to the large online retailers. The people are very helpful and friendly and run a local camera club with numerous trips and ideas for photo opportunities. I know people like and enjoy dealing online, but give me the face to face interaction every time.

In the school where I teach, the art teacher is starting a new photography class. he has asked if I will come in as a guest speaker a few times. He really doesn't know much about using a camera or taking photos but he is an expert in Photoshop. Maybe this is the new trend.

Last school year I let a friends daughter use my canon k2 rebel film camera for her photography class. I had purchased it for my daughter 8 yr ago thinking we"d sale it to someone the next year. They made the transition to digital the next year so I kept it. I was surprised when my friend said she needed a film camera as it's the same school district my daughter attended. Due to some re districting her daughter was transferred to a different school and wants to continue learning photography. I spoke with her teacher there to find out what and if she needed her own camera. I was shocked at his reply, you guessed it no more than a smart phone. Turns out the class is more about photo manipulation and special effects then learning true skills. Is this the norm or have budget cuts gone way to far in my neck of the woods?

I did this a number of years ago with a Canon Photo scanner. If you have the time and desire to do it yourself it allows you to pick and choose the photos you deem worthy of saving and keeping. I ended up scanning 1500 family pictures that were sitting in a box and I now have them cycling through as my screen saver. Allows us to just sit and watch good family memories that were collecting dust.

That is really cool. The possibilities are endless. Think of the different perspectives you could get on all of the things you do.

Is your projector hooked up to a DVD player? I installed a BluRay burner ($60) on my computer and now can view the pictures directly from a disc. Also allows for a nice slideshow format.

Many new 1080p projectors apparently no longer have normal USB inputs. I want to transfer photos from my computer onto a usb memory stick and show them thru a projector onto a screen so the family can watch together. Is there a direct converter piece for usb to hdmi so I can do this? The ones I saw online have a connecting cable designed to connect and convert a laptop's usb output to plug into a projector's hdmi input. But if I have a regular usb stick with a normal male end I don't think that's what I need. Thanks for your info.

I understand one can use a yardstick at a 45 degree angle to calibrate lens focus, using the maximum focal length and widest aperture -- but I don't know the formula for the correct distance from the camera for the lens in question. I'm checking my new Tamron and several Canon zooms on a MKII and a 70D. Any suggestions would be appreciated, as I'ver never tried this before.
