Thanks Craig, I have heard that about the spots. They don't scare me away, but I am now considering the new Nikon 750. Still saving the cash. I intend on doing more homework and getting one of the nikon FF's in Jan. 2015.

Good luck Sprocket, I have had Nikons for 40 years and been satisfied with everyone of them. My next move will be a D750 or D800e. But the Tamron 150-600mm comes first.

Nikon D600
Meade 8" 2000mm
#1 SS 1/60"
f/10
ISO 1000
I pushed the ISO to see what happens.
#2 SS 1/30"
I stuck a BAADER 17mm Lens in between the Telescope and the Camera.
In this very light cloud cover I just can't get crystal clear shots

I took this series of Moon photos over a several day period... I wanted to take more photos but the clouds and rain dampened my efforts...
The seeing conditions, the Moon's elevation angle, and other various factors gave varying photographic results...

Hi Bruce great work as usual!!! I look forward to getting my 150-600mm

It's funny how the weather always knows when you get a new telescope.
After shooting these it clouded over and its supposed to stay that way all week thanks to a hurricane off the coast of Mexico.
Curious to see how this scope handles the planets.

Hi Albuq, fantastic photo I love that C-11". I know what you mean I live in Santa Maria CA and it's been foggy 87 of the last 90 days I've had my Meade 8".

I'll post my shot from last night on a new post.

"WoW" full frame , who would have thought . and all through sixties and seventies , eighties , nineties and up to the 2000 and something all I ever shot was a 35 mm film ,120 film . now we got full frame , how wonder full

The Full Frame sensor is the same size as you 35mm film. It should be right up your alley, an easy transition. I can't get film developed anywhere in my town any more.

I had kind of the same thing happen. I have a D5100 and got to use a D600 at my camera store.

I didn't do any scientific testing with exact comparison, but I think that I can say that I had the same skill behind both cameras in the hour that I played with them both. :-) It was in the evening and the sun was fading fast.

I used a 50mm prime. Same lens on both. The FF was a lot sharper in the low light. The color was better too. After I zoomed in close on both sets of pics looking at the detail, I knew on that day that I will be saving for a FF and will not stop until I get one.

:)
I had kind of the same thing happen. I have a D510... (show quote)

Go for it Sprocket
About the model D600, some have had a problem with oil spots on the Sensor, get the camera store to find the history on the Sensor service that's been done on that Camera. Or have them send the camera to Nikon. I have 14,000 actuations and no oil spots.

""Any of you using smaller sensor cameras, have you formerly used FF and find the smaller sensors equivalent"".
Hi Gene, I still stand by my quote of earlier. I got a D600 for a really good price to flip and could not part with it after my first shoot.
So the D5300 had to go.

I don't think 6400 is necessary, or always recommended, with every camera. I shot a D600 on D3200 and got just fine results.. My point is you don't necessarily need to go that high depending on lens and location.

Hi Stef I have to agree with you, my avatar was shot at ISO 3200 f/2.8. I shoot a D600, Tokina 16-28mm f/2.8 and I like to always keep my ISO down as much as possible.

I believe you and very fine shots by the way. I was just showing how far a lesser camera can go with it's abilities.
I'll take the challenge, I want to see how much noise I get at high ISO's tonight. We all know noise loves to dress in black , I always push ISO as low as I can get away with. I'd like to see what happens with H1 & H2

Went out and shot the basic same shot at 6,400, H1 & H2 (what is that 12,800 and 25,600) and the SD Card was screaming so loud I could hardly get it in the house.

Craig, just noticed that B&H has the D610 on sale now for $1796 which it making it much more difficult in holding off buying one until I save a few more dollars. I love that camera body and look forward to obtaining one. It is my next step up from my D7000, which was a step up from my D50. Slowly acquiring some FX lenses, as well.

A better approach is to denoise it first - color and luminance, THEN sharpen. 20 sec should be about right for a 14 mm lens at F2.8 on a D600, ISO 800. Shorter focal length or slower lens will need a higher ISO.

Good approach I'll give it a try your way Thank you Gene, nice shot

Low ISO is low ISO. My point is that while D600 sensor is great at low ISO, Df/D4 sensor has a definitely advantage at high ISO. You could have taken that same shot at ISO 50 with three stops longer shutter speed and it would look the same, but if you took it at ISO 6400 it would be very noisy.

This shot was at ISO 12,800. What would an indoor portrait at ISO 12,800 look like on the D600?

Is this not the sun or is it some sort of light? red arrows indicating light just above the wooden fence left of the shed. Maybe it's just a street light?

I guess I don't have much credibility. You are looking WSW at 5 AM, almost total darkness, that is a streetlight 3 blocks away.
