I was recently at Huguenot Memorial Park on the Atlantic (just north of the St. Johns River in Jacksonville, Florida), a large breeding area for Royal Terns and Laughing Gulls. Although the temperature was in the 90's and sunny I hung in there knowing I might have a chance for a decent shot. Most of the time the chick was under Mom's wing and barely visible. Mom took off for about a minute to find lunch and the chick was really upset when she left. She returned without a small fish or shrimp but they let everyone know that all was well; both looked very content!
