The beach is rough, everybody above is right, get some books on taking pics at beach, or go on computor and find what settings others have used. I only work at beach for 2 hours in early morning, and 1 or 2 hours before sundown. Any other time I work in the shade, maybe with a flash..

What i have done a few times, is get all your setting done put your camera on your tripod, and your timer for ten seconds. Then put the camera thru the bars and take 5 or ten pics.
some of the pics will have the lion in the frame. Make sure you use at least f1/200 to reduce shake. People around you might think your nuts, but a good pic is worth it..

Don't understand what the 50mm lens has to do with the movement of the subject.. put the shutter speed at 1/200 or even 1/125 and there should be no movement..

For what you are talking about, I always shoot at f8 and 1/200.. I can adjust my flash after I take a couple of preview shots. Don't go over 400 iso or you will get noise..

I have a light meter also, and never notice any difference.

after your question I got out my old Canon AE1 film camera and check out the settings with the built in light meter, and they came out the same as the light meter. They work fine with my digital. Maybe some thing else is wrong..

Start reading about lenses on the internet, or photo mags.
Most name brands such as Camon or Nikon are very good. Some knock offs are good for the begginner, unless your a pro,and need 1000.00 lenses but from your question I don't think u r, or u would know about lenses..I have used Canon camers and lenses for 30 years, and the quality is excellent..

What are u talking about, you probably can't get the aperture down far enough to get the right exposer. The only way u might have a chance is with a tripod.

Buy a good use Canon Rebel from a reliable store like BHphoto in Brooklyn, or Egghead. It's a great camera to start with. Once u master all the features and start taking good pictures u can always move up depending on how much money u want to spend..
