Ken Burns's "Civil War" is way over "Gone with the Wind". What I would like to see is someone make a tv series base on the book "Gone With the Wind" and follow what in the book. An example: Scare has one child in the movie, in the book she has four. Ashly in the movie get over the war. In the book he does not. As for the movie itself I think that better movies came out that same year(1939) as "Gone With the Wind".

Yes, I agree that the Ken Burns documentary was way above the movie, Gone With The Wind. But, the movie, released in 1939, is still considered a Classic Movie. Once in awhile, TCM will televise the movie. And, give every detail, as to how it was produced. Starting with Clark Gable. The Wizard of Oz, another Classic, came out in 1939.

Yep, been seeing notices about the Grant series for a while now, and am rather anticipating watching it. Sort of became interested in Civil War stuff --not in a major way, but still quite interested nonetheless-- as a result of a lengthy series Life Magazine did on it, commemorating its Centennial, in the '60's. Ken Burn's 80's Civil War series, too, was exceptional pretty obviously. Have watched probably all of the better --and not so better-- feature films about the time --'Glory' comes to first to mind, but likewise 'Gettysburg,' last year's stunning bio-pic about Jane Pitman, and any number of others-- repeatedly, and they never get old. Visited a number of the NPS's Battlefield Parks in my various wanderings, but strangely, while standing, for example, on top of Little Round Top and seeing/viewing/shooting the bucolic scene laid out before me, I couldn't find it within me to genuinely 'feel' the place. Hope this 'Grant' series lives up to expectations.

Yes, I hope it will be as good as advertised. I searched and found out that Ken Burns Civil War was actually released in the Fall of 1990, on the PBS network. It is nearly 30 years old, and still a Classic, like the movie, Gone With The Wind. General Grant, had the utmost respect for General Lee. Even though he was the enemy.

This is for those who have an interest in America's Civil War. I first became interested in the Civil War when I first viewed Ken Burns Civil War Documentary. Some decades ago. Ken Burns had a segment on General Grant in that Documentary. President Abraham Lincoln finally found a General that could finish the War. General Robert E. Lee was the first wanted, to lead the Union Army. But, Robert E. Lee chose loyalty to Virginia instead. General Grant had General William Tecumseh Sherman, and General Lee had General Stonewall Jackson. Four great Generals. However, General Stonewall Jackson was severely wounded, when one of his own soldiers shot him accidentally. He later died. Too early, many historians have said. General Lee needed him at Gettysburg. General Grant went on to become President for two terms. The producer of Monday's Miniseries is actor Leonardo DiCaprio. The Miniseries is 3 straight nights. Check it out. Any additional comments about General Grant are welcomed. Have a great Memorial Day Holiday everyone.

First, it was the closing of many Sears Stores not too long ago. Sears Store closings were not impacted by the Coronavirus, but Penny's Stores are. Both Sears and Penny's have stores in my community. Sears not for long though. Even, with stimulus money help from the federal government, Penny's may have been struggling financially, before the Coronavirus began. Amazon, Best Buy Stores, and Walmart are doing just fine. For now.

I would say that DSLRs are on the demise. But, not yet obsolete. Nikon released not long ago, its latest D780, and the D6 is upcoming. Canon has its new pro level 1DX Mark 3 DSLR. The Coronavirus has had a negative effect on all camera Brand sales. With photographers having other essential things to take care of. Especially, with many being unemployed. Mirrorless will be the Future. I doubt that Nikon will have any new upgraded DSLRs, after 2020. Already, Nikon is expecting a new full frame Z8 mirrorless, and an upgraded mirrorless crop sensor camera to the Nikon Z50. Canon, is also launching new mirrorless cameras. Faster, than what I expected. And Canon owners seem are welcoming the new mirrorless cameras.

You should see the 5th Grade math text books they are using today. I was substitute teaching a 5th Grade class and some of the kids asked for help with their Math assignment. Yikes, Much of it did not even use numbers or x, y, a, b, etc. like you would in Algebra, but pictures and icons. I read the chapter and a few before and could not figure it out. Mind you, I have a Bachelor's degree in Biology and have had three college classes in Calculus, and a Teaching Credential. I had to be honest with the kids and tell them I don't understand it either and they would have to wait until their regular teacher comes back. I still don't know what the Cr*p was. I've tried asking a math professor. It was so weird! It might explain some of the problem the world is having today.

Yes, you are correct. It was that way ten years ago. I can only imagine what it is like today. My highest achieved math was Algebra 2. I later took a course in business mathematics, which I find beneficial to this day. Trigonometry and Calculus were avoided by me. A friend of mine, told me, all the math you need to know, is enough to make sure no one cheats you. And, an understanding of your checking and savings account. Primarily adding and subtracting mostly. He said that is fine after you finished school. Unless, you are in a career, where advanced math is needed. Engineering, Science, and High Tech, etc. Some school districts in America, have discussed, giving all students, a grade of "A", during this pandemic. Regardless if they earned it. A reward, for being deprived a teacher and classroom. I guess?

Despite the Coronavirus that has plagued the nation, the NFL Draft is going to happen. In, a selection process, that has never been done before. This, is the year of selecting quarterbacks. With Joe Burrow, Heisman Trophy winner, from LSU, and Tua Tagavailoa from Alabama. Being the best available. The Cincinnati Bengals have first choice. Rumors are out, that Patriots coach, Bill Belichick wants Tua. But, will have to wheel and deal to get him. Coach Belichick traded tight end Gronkowski to Tampa Bay, to join Brady again, for a 4th Round Choice. Tua could end up with the Los Angeles Chargers. Football season begins in a little over 4 months. Will there be a season? Both College and NFL.

I own both Nikon and Watson batteries. I got my first Watson battery from B&H some time ago. I then bought another one later. So, for my Nikon DSLR, I have a total of 3 batteries for one camera. I charge them all, especially when I travel. Along with my charger. The Watson batteries are not such a bargain price anymore, IMO. So, my future battery, when one of my batteries no longer holds a charge, will be a Nikon Brand. I'll just pay the extra price. I don't trust buying camera batteries from eBay, and memory cards. However, I have bought other items from eBay with no problems. Nikon, has upgraded its EN EL-15 batteries. First, it was the 15, then the 15a, and later the 15b. The 15b was designed for the Z series mirrorless, to have the battery charged inside the camera, via USB cable. Nikon, is coming out, with another battery, the 15c, to be used in the new upcoming Nikon mirrorless Z8. I have seen good reviews on Wasabi batteries. They cost less than the Watson's.

Everyone has a camera from a smartphone. They take good to very good photos. As for a beginning camera. I would say, did you like the borrowed camera you were using? A beginning camera can be many cameras. DSLRs, Bridge cameras, or even a pocket camera. It depends too, what you want in a camera. Features, mainly. And budget.

I feel sorry for those who were running a small business. Having done that, I know how hard it is to get the business going - and how close to bankruptcy you can be. It will be hard to come back for many of them. We are trying to get take-out several times a week from our favorite small restaurants, and are just hopeful that enough of their regulars will do the same for them to be able to survive financially.

I'm doing the same, at a favorite family owned Italian restaurant. Take out only of course. But, only one waitress and one cook was working, during a busy before, lunchtime period, it normally has for dining in customers. And, my favorite bartender/waitress is out of a job right now, at a local sports bar near me. She worked there for years. That restaurant/bar has completely closed. They were so busy during weekends, they had five waitresses and two bartenders. All are out of work. I hope, when this Coronavirus is over, I can see all of them return to work.

Take it or send it to the shop. I dropped a D500 with a Nikon 200-500, only about a foot off a small table, on it and it took me awhile to realize that my auto focus was not catching as it should. A $1000 later all is fine. Both the lens and the camera needed work. It pays to carry insurance!

Wow! A thousand bucks. That's another new lens. I suppose you had insurance?

The unemployment rate before this Coronavirus appeared was good. All my friends, and their teenage sons and daughters had jobs of some type. Teenagers, going to school, had available minimum wage jobs. Work was plentiful in restaurants and fast food restaurants. I remember well, the financial setbacks I went through, along with my friends, who took a beating with 401-k retirement plans, etc., in 2008. Now, here we go again. Job layoffs, means no money. Federal stimulus checks are to be sent out soon. Thank goodness for that. Otherwise, it would be disastrous. There were no stimulus checks to get, during the Great Depression of the 1930s. My father and grandmother, told me how bad it was back then. We will survive though. We just have to get rid of this virus, to get back, to what it once was. Hopefully soon. Are any uhh members, or family members, friends, that are affected by the massive layoffs?

While there was a Nikon D810A. Nikon says it has no interest in manufacturing a D850A. And, as mentioned previously, the D810 is a discontinued full frame DSLR. A 2,150 is a low shutter count on that camera, for a pro level DSLR. It may be slightly high for a refurbished Nikon crop sensor, such as a D7200. But, it still will be serviceable for many years. The D7200 has a shutter lifespan of 100,000+ shutter clicks.

Take a look at Times Square, NYC, Crossroads of the World, kind of lonely right now!

I have never been to NYC, only Buffalo to see the Niagara Falls, and Syracuse to visit a friend. All Americans knew about NYC on 9-11-01. I actually saw the 2nd plane fly into one of the Twin Towers, live on TV. Strange, that many firemen, policemen, and other emergency workers, suffered respiratory problems, including some getting cancer, from chemicals that were used to construct those beautiful buildings. Now Coronavirus has stricken the State of New York. Especially NYC. Here, we go again. Times Square will be full of people on New Years Eve, 2020. To see the big ball rolling again. This too shall pass.
