I can't argue with the F6. But I always drooled over the F5, so I have to list that second. It's so tempting to pick one up used today...

ah yes. the indubitable f5 - well, like the f4 a real beast to lug around. so, in my little world of film, it didn't make the list. i'm still using my 1959 nikon f with the non-metered pentaprism. has never let me down.

I'm thinking you are referring to the Nikon F with the FtN finder shown here?

heck no, SS. think of the original with the non metered pentaprism - that's the baby.
as for the f4, yes a great camera, if you could lift it! it weighed more than my hasselblad with the 100mm lens on it!
the f6 is really the penultimate nikon

Not that it matters, but as I have told you before - I have read Tom Ang.
And did you ever stop to think that maybe we came to our conclusion from our own personal experiences.
I may not quite be the grizzled old fart that you are yet, but I do measure my experience in decades and not in years.
I really do doubt if my panties are bunched up. I go commando a fair bit of the time.

quit it with the endless arguments...everyone knows the linn sondek lp12 is way better than the sota star!!!

I agree with you a hundred percent. I bought many a moon ago Kodak's B&W instant cameras as a lark and to experiment to see if I still got it. The answer was no. I got a lot of mixed results, and to say the least the common consensus, I needed to do more practice. Fair enough. Color is so easy and it takes practice to get B&W down to an art form. I loved it and if the finances were better, I would go there again. The fun is in the failures to get to the successes.

i completely agree. again, it's all a matter of content.

I go to many photo exhibitions. I see a lot of museums and galleries hang Black and White and Sepia photos.

Question: When do you photogs think about that? Is it sometimes better to go Black and White from an artistic or technical standpoint and why?

it's not a question of one versus the other. it's the issue of content.

Sol, I hope you NEVER get invited to dinner.
You had a great opportunity to educate that woman and explain to her how it works, maybe even offer the help her husband out with his shooting, but you willingly did not do so because you weren't strong enough. I presume you own a phone, because you could still salvage the opportunity and be a real hero.
I know this is not the pat on the back responce you where expecting. Have you ever watched the cooking shows? Are they using a stove just like yours? Ever wonder why?
If you ever DO get invited to dinner, it's because they consider you a friend and not because she wants you to make her feel stupid and be made a fool of. Not everybody is a photographer and understands. if she's smart enough to cook, she is more than smart enough to understand.
Sol, why don't you be a real freind.
Think I'm coming down to hard on you? It's not as hard as you just came down on that poor woman.
Just had to vent, thanks for listening. ;-)

This is a picture of an older manual focus Canon FD 28mm F/2.0 lens. The lens is in overall very nice shape - except for what has been developing inside of it.

What's your verdict? Garbage or worthwhile having it professionally cleaned?

Thanks!

what you are seeing is not fungus, but separation of the front lens element group due to the balsam cement drying. this happens often with older lenses. the folks at SK Grimes used to have a clean room and reset the elements, but they have discontinued the service.
however, from the angle of view of your photo, it appears if you stop down the lens one stop, you should find the lens will work just fine. also, it may never progress, but stay as is.
hope this is of assistance to you.

evidently your client is desensitised in matters of ethics. that is unless the caption advises the addition of said individual.

I agree to a certain extent. For a very nominal fee, Sensei has produced some very inexpensive " filter wrenches" that work, see B&H. Gottem and they work well. I would opt however, for a decent quality ring, and it appears B+W is a viable option and there are probably others. My deal is that I already own a decent 67mm CPL and would rather buy a good step up ring as opposed to another CPL, but wide angle usage is a tough issue to start with. Got to be careful or "unequal" distribution occurs.

with regard to adapter rings, those made of brass and plastic are excellent and do not bind. any aluminium ring will bind, as that is a characteristic of the beast.

i'd go with the gossen luna pro sbc with the spot attachment or a Pentax analogue 1 degree spotmeter. actually both, as you will find use for each.
they are simple, relatively inexpensive on ebay and durable as all get out.

sekonic builds a wonderful meter, but not for a beginner. later on, perhaps.

I believe out hit upon the heart of the value of PP, be it with a mouse or in th darkroom. Great post.

to equate pushing and pulling film during development and dodging and burning with digital post processing is laughable. all one needs do is look at the Associated Press' severed relationship with the Pulitzer Award photographer, for removing a section of image. this does not happen with film. as again, the negative is the final arbiter.

so, nice try, folks. comparing computer programs to chemicals in a developing tank!
