Two abnormalties.
I was on my back porch to take some pictures of some birds at my bird feeder. I ran across these two birds with abnormalties.
On the picture of the "salmon" colored male cardinal, there is "no" black or red pigments in any of its' feathers.
On the picture of the "white Wing Dove", it has a "top knot" on its' head. I have never seen any thing like this before.
Has any one else seen any like this? Please let me know. A few words that I can come up with on these two birds are: "strange", "weird", And "oddballs".
Thanks.
Perhaps you could check with the National Audubon Society?
While waiting in line to tour the battleship Missouri in Pearl Harbor recently, I got pictures (not on this computer, unfortunately) of a similarly colored cardinal. He had a black face, however. According to "The Sibley Guide to Birds" a juvenile cardinal will have coloration very much like your photo from April to September. It will start with a black bill that will gradually change to orange. At maturity, a female cardinal will have plumage similar to your photo though a bit more saturated, with a small black mask and red orange bill. The mature male will be bright red overall with a bright red orange bill. I think you have a photo of a juvenile with a bill in transition from black to orange. As for the dove???? Thanks for sharing these shots with us.
I kinda agree with you on the cardinal. I will try to keep up with its' color as time progresses.. As for the dove, I don't know what is going on. Looks like it just got out of the beauty shop, doesn't it?
The second picture looks alike a euracian dove.
It is a White Wing dove. VERY plentiful in this area.
Any comments on the Cardinal?
Thanks.
