Portrait of Omri, an Irish Wolfhound

Anyone who knows me knows that I adore animals. I worked in veterinary medicine for over a decade before making the switch to becoming a full-time artist about 7 years ago. Animal welfare is a passion of mine— I am vegan, and will always be the voice for our animal friends that we share the planet with.
I do shoot many pet portraits: this one was shot a couple of years ago; his name was Omri, and he was a 200# Irish Wolfhound owned by my friends Kathy and Carrie.
Omri, sadly, passed away last year. Irish Wolfhounds are lucky to make it to the age of 5 or 6 years old, so I am glad I took this shot (and many others) of him before he became sick and succumbed to his illness.
I try very hard to capture the essence of an animal, they all have such different personalities— this shot is so much the Omri I remember: wise, calm, stoic, direct in his gaze, and at times it seemed he could look right through a person. So much there in his eyes, if one takes the time to really look.
Love forever my beautiful friend. You will never be forgotten...and your parents miss you so much 💕

Your touching story explains why they are known as the "Heartbreak Breed"...regardless of the breed though, our furry friends all leave us too soon.
