I am wondering what effect if any Nikon dropping out of the recent NRA annual convention has on this community. I am wondering how many of you guys are gun buffs and are angry or happy at Nikon's actions. Forty years ago I was a large gun dealer in NY and the very first dealer to sell Nikon rifle scopes. Me thinks, most gun people will no longer buy their very good scopes, but what about camera gear?

I support and commend Nikon for their disassociation from the NRA. However, it would not entice me to buy Nikon - their 'no soup for you' approach to servicing gray market Nikon gear is a deal breaker for me.

I'm a Nikon shooter and a Yeti user. I also have an open carry license. I don't give a crap about the NRA. It's just political hype enjoyed by my Bubba friends.

That was stupid on the part of Nikon. They should think before making such a stupid decision. However, since the 1960s all my equipment has been Nikon, and I will continue to use it.

This belongs in The Attic. It is political and really has nothing to do with photography.

If the leaders of a corporation are not comfortable with their association with an organization, they certainly have the right to end their relationship with that organization. Consumers certainly have the right to choose to purchase merchandise produced by corporations aligned with their own moral compass. I will continue to use Nikon gear and I have more respect for Nikon because they stood up for their principles.

I find it interesting, and disappointing, that your post was so instantly politicized by several.

Nikon simply decided to no longer make rifle scopes. I can find nothing indicating their intent to distance themselves from the NRA.

It looks like I have quite a few businesses with which to interact.

This is as silly as what I read this week people piling on canceling their Netflix because they may have a show with the Obama's.
This is the twittering of our country. Rambling people over reacting to everything. Who cares if Nikon quit NRA. Or Netflix has shows
about personalities in the news. I don't care for the NRA's closed minded attitude. I don't want people with holstered guys in
Starbucks. I don't want open carry of guys when I am with children. Guns in a bar? But It is just another opinion. And I listen.

I always told me children who are adults try and imagine what the other person's is thinking in a situation. And try to understand it.
Put yourself in their shoes and it will help you to understand a lot of things in life.

Yes this is not a photo question but a political one. Nikon is a great company and I enjoyed and respected their equipment for many years.
Recently I see a lot of angry reaction to opinions. Isn't freedom of thought is this country why we are so proud of the USA?

But, no mention of Nikon, which is my point.

Let me preference this with the information that I have a large collection of pistols and rifles, further I have a concealed carry license (and do on occasion carry). I come from a long tradition of firearm ownership, both my wife and I are very serious target shooters (though we have pretty much given up hunting). I have never been nor do I ever intend to be a member of the NRA; as a young man I had great respect for them as an organization promoting and encouraging gun safety through their education program. However, the organization that has now evolved into a political action group intent of purchasing political influence bears no relationship to that organization I once admired. The NRA is rapidly getting itself on the wrong side of history through its intransigent position of reasonable provisions for background checks and limitations on magazine size.
The question of gun ownership and firearm safety have become very politicized in our country with many incorrect assumptions being taken from an individuals position on a single issue. I am not defined by a single issue, other than my desire to find the truth behind issues or events.
Nikon makes superbe optics (lens, scopes, binoculars, etc.) as enjoy excellent quality I will continue to use and purchase their products irrespective of their support or lack of support for the NRA.
As to whether this an appropriate subject for UHH, ??????, I simply felt a necessity to clarify my feelings on the subject (for myself as much as anyone).

Nikon does what Nikon does. Some will be affected by their decision and some will not. However, what Nikon does will have absolutely no effect on our second amendment right to bear arms. That is the bottom line for me and the NRA will feel no perceptible effect from their actions. I will continue to shoot Nikon.

i use nikon equipment along with other brands. i also target shoot using a colt woodsman with the 9 and 13 inch barrels. i applaud nikon for their stand. i've have spent years in conflict areas and have had occasions to use other weapons in order to come out alive, always a nice result. with about 3 thousand hours of training and abusing the quantico models, i can assure you the last thing i want is people afraid of their environment carrying weapons.
