I am not a fan of zoos. I appreciate the educational value of well managed zoo but I usually find them quite depressing to visit. Nevertheless, eager to try out my new/used AF-S 70-300, 4.5-5.6G, I grabbed my trusty D7500 and headed for the local zoo to find some birds. Here are a few of the fascinating creatures I encountered...

Nice shots. I don't see anything wrong with zoos unless the animals are mistreated. While it is true that many zoos through out the world mistreat the animals many here in the USA do not, however they are usually underfunded and resources are scarce.

Nice photos - well composed and that lens is a keeper. Zoos are often the first place that many kids are exposed to wildlife close up - and in these times the educational opportunities offered by zoos and the cooperative research and species protection efforts of zoos is invaluable. While it is sad to see the whales and dolphins at Sea World, I have to wonder how many people have been inspired to help protect these creatures in the wild BECAUSE they had a chance to see them up close.

Nice shots! Most of do not realize the beauty of birds without the use of telephoto lenses and judicious editing. Like what you did!

Excellent shots, Allan, especially since it was a zoo! Yes, I always feel so sorry for those poor animals!
