Here's an improvement to pretty much any neck strap. It's a 'swivel & clip' that can be purchased in any store that sells fishing equipment. They're strong (100# test or better), rust proof (stainless steel or bronze), allow you to easily un-clip your device, and cheap (less then 75 cents each). I put them on all sorts of hanging stuff like binoculars, keys, etc.

i just feel more secure with a neck strap, but then, i've never used a wrist strap ;o). I like having my hands free. When I had my heavier gear, I used a BosStrap which is a cross body strap. Unlike similar straps that attach to the tripod mount on the bottom of the camera, this one attaches at the side. It was extremely comfortable such that I could go all day with my heaviest lens and experience no neck pain.

Sorry, I do not use straps while shooting, too restrictive. If, I am walking for any distance I may use a Black Rapid strap.

I have traveled extensively over the past 6 years. I am 71, in good shape and use the Black Rapid sling strap to carry my full frame Nikon with my 28-300mm walk around lens. It is a relatively heavy combo, and I can walk all day with this set up. I like the sling strap because it does not put pressure aroung my neck and distributes the weight in such a way that I do not feel any discomfort.

Whatever you decide is right for the situation, time and camera weight. Whatever you use, don't use a neck strap. It is hard on the neck and the camera flops around from side to side when you walk if you don't hold on to it. I most often use an Indigo Marble neoprene sling strap with a safety connector. It has a split in the neoprene shoulder strap and non-slip texture. It stays where I want it and the camera stays by my side. I find wrist straps to be inadequate once you get above the weight of a bridge camera.

I use both a BlackRapid Sport shoulder strap and BlackRapid wrist strap... There are probably hundreds of straps to choose from...

When hiking in rough terrain it is best to keep your hands free. I use the Op Tech sling strap.

I usually use peak design shoulder strap and sometimes a wrist strap. When I use the wrist strap it goes on my left wrist so my right hand is available for writing.
I also have other straps, including neck shoulder and wrist. I would never use a wrist strap that is made for my right hand.

I carry my camera with a hand strap (I hold in my hand all the time) When I do to some locations as European tourist locations I have a neck strap with a cable in it. I also have a small camera bag (can hold 1 camera and a spate lens) with a cable strap. PS I carry a Canon 17 -40mm and a Tamron 28-300mm.

I used a neck strap for a long time. When I got a DSLR the lens was longer than all the other cameras I had had and it kept bumping into things. One suggestion was to turn the strap around so the lens was pointing inward rather than outward. That kind of forced it to hang down so the whole thing wasn't sticking outward as much. But then the camera was doing most of the bumping into things and the strap was catching on things. I tried several different straps (including baler twine) but wasn't happy with any of them. Sometimes I would wrap the strap around my wrist and carry it that way but it was prone to coming loose. Even taking a twist wasn't really secure. I then got a wrist strap. It attached to the tripod socket. It was secure and I could let go of the camera completely and the strap kept it attached to my arm. However, I wasn't able to reach all the controls without loosening the strap. And I use a grip with vertical controls and those were completely unusable with the wrist strap.

When I carried the camera with the neck strap attached but not around my neck the strap would catch onto things and try to pull my camera out of my hand. It never did, but it came close a couple times.

I finally gave up and took off the strap and left it off. I carry the camera bare now. I have no problem carrying the camera without a strap. When I have to use my right hand for something else I bend my left elbow and stick the lens into the bend and press the camera and lens into my chest. I have never dropped the camera while not using a strap. My camera hit the ground one time, and that was when it was on a tripod unattended and the wind blew it over.

I use either a sling strap or a risk strap. Neck straps bother me a lot.

I use a wrist strap exclusively, but I have a Sony RX10 IV which is not too heavy.

My question would be, How long would you be carrying the camera around every day? The wristband strap is ok to use, but you still have your camera in your hand all that time. Having a strap over the shoulders all day is less tiresome and it is still easy to access your camera for those surprise shots. I would get a strap that is easy to remove from the camera. Peak Design has some very nice straps for over the shoulder. The only problem I have had with mine is the slots for the quick release tabs are smaller than my fingers and it can be hard to depress the button correctly to remove the anchor tab. But it is very comfortable and the quick slide makes it easy to adjust.

ditto. holding the camera with the wrist strap is tiring on your right hand. i use the nikon neck strap that came with the camera. i offer put on my wrist, wrap it around my hand and turn it into a wrist strap.
