So, we're leaving for Europe in 24 hrs, and I was planning on bringing my Nikon D810, the Tamron 24-70 and the Nikon 28-300. Which is incredibly heavy and had me stressing if I would spend my time fussing with the camera and not enjoying the trip.

Imagine my delight when I got home today to find that my Wife had been to Samys in Los Angeles and picked up a Fuji X-T20 with 2 kit lenses the 16-50 and 50-230 plus a nice little 23 mm pancake lens and 2 spare batteries. Looks like I get to read the manual on the flight over the Atlantic.

I think, after 40 years, she's a keeper.

You will enjoy the Fuji camera. Good IQ and easy to use. You won't be fussing and yet still get good pictures. I have the 23 mm f2 lens and the 50-230 mm lens. Both are very sharp. At first the 50-230 mm lens is a little tricky to get the exposure set the way you want it because it doesn't have an aperture ring on the lens. Sounds like all you need is a downsized camera bag :) Have fun!

I think you will really enjoy that camera. I have the X-T10 and both of those lenses.
Also have the 18-55mm f2.8-4 which is the one you should get next.
The 16-50 is nice, but the 18-55 is even better.
Enjoy your trip and looking forward to seeing some great images taken with this camera.

Your wife is a smart lady. That “little” Fuji is quite a camera. Enjoy your trip. If I EVER get back to Europe (I tossed coins in the Fountain de Trevi in Rome, so I have to go back), i’ll be carrying my Fuji and leaving my FF Canon at home. Last time I went, it was a Canon AE-1P and a 35-105 😂. Have a great trip!

Our 40th anniversary is coming up in the Fall. I think I'll print your post and leave it lying around for my wife to read.
Enjoy your trip. Don't get too wrapped up in your camera and neglect your good wife. Post pics when you get back.

Have a great time on the trip and enjoy the new camera. As for the Nikkor 28-300 being heavy, check out the Canon 28-300, it's maybe a wee bit (2 pounds) heavier. I know, it's my default lens on my D7200 (yes, I know it's not a DX lens) and 5D mk-IV.

you will probably have the 24-70 on your D810 over 95% of the time.
But it is good exercise since you miss your gym hours during your vacation.
