Why was the 50 mm lens so common as a standard lens ?

Thanks for the wrap up. It's about time. We have concluded that a "normal" lens range is 35-70 mm with agreement that the human eye is about 53mm (and confirmed by my eye Dr. yesterday afternoon). 50 mm was the standard lens in film cams for years for about ten given reasons in this banter, all of which are acceptable. Full frame today pretty much matches these parameters. Bye.

Most places are saying 17 but effectively 22 mm, however that includes peripheral vision with a field of view of around 160 degrees.

if you look at we can focus on the fov is around 55 degrees or a focal length of 43mm

You'd have to ask people who are long dead. Maybe it was a marketing thing at the time. Inflate everything.

I will wrap this up with every camera I saw when i started in my twenties came with a 50mm lens.
Most never bought another lens. That was the camera setup. And it wasn't called kit lens.

nor were the 50mm lenses built like kit lenses. the 50mm lenses were what Canon and Nikon based their systems on, and were the best the could make.
