There is a photographer who is a Facebook friend of mine who shoots from a wheelchair that he customized. If I find the pic of it, I will post.

that's a good solution. in my case I can't let go of the walker to handle the camera. I shoot from a scooter of a stool.

Basil: Just the inventiveness of this creative tripod shows how much you don't want to give it up.... I do very much understand.... There is always a way when there is a will... Strength and stamina to you...

Good for your son. He’s making lemonade, for sure, not letting his circumstances defeat him. There’s always a way.

An articulated arm with a clamp that is pictured below could be mounted to a walker, wheel chair or almost any thing.
A ball head or almost any type of camera mount could be attached to it.
