your local Lowes, Home Depot or other garden center. Most are very tolerant of photographers. You really can't use a tripod and you have to take the setting as is but working your subject will usually minimize distractions. Here are a few shots from a bad weather visit to Lowes.

Thank you, Jan! Most of my plants at home are severely cold damaged so this is a worthwhile alternative.

Very beautiful, Carol. Although I am a little intimidated taking pictures at Lowes or Home Depot, sooner or later I'm going to need my flower photo fix. I really like your pictures, so I'm just going to have to do it.
Great shots.
Gary

Gary, I just make sure I'm not in the way. One day I was buying a small plant at Home Depot and I told the check out person I was getting it mainly to take pictures. She said I could come there and take pictures anytime I wanted. I'm glad you enjoyed these and hope it encourages you. I don't know how stocked they are with flowers in your area this time of year but I imagine they have some blooming indoor plants at least.

All are beautifully exposed, with great clarity. I'm very drawn to #4 (cyclamen?) for the perspective of the delicate shapes and the dark background.

I went to Lowe's very early one morning and the clerk said sure, take pics! About 20 minutes later, another employee (don't know if was the supervisor of the first) gave me a bit of attitude :)

All lovely shots, Carol, with beautiful colors and details... and like you said, when all else fails, there's always someplace to shoot!! I've even taken shots of tools while in Home Depot! lol..

Thank you, Linda. #4 is cyclamen and I confess that we carried that one to an area with greenery for a background. They are truly lovely flowers. I’ve never had anyone say anything but I have seen some strange looks! I’m just careful not to be in the way of employees or other customers. One afternoon there was a lady skipping around with her cell phone doing a video of a hummingbird moth!

Thank you, Angela. I've experimented with the more mundane things at Lowes, too! Sometimes we get desperate.

Thank you, Bob. When the weather gets bad we have to be creative, even here in Florida!
