Does anyone know of a free background removal software that is user friendly? Thanks!

"...user friendly" That's a relative term. Photoshop can do it, but no one has ever called PS "user friendly." On the other hand, once you know how to perform an operation, it's easy. Below are links for replacing a sky.

This is free for 30 days. Best and fastest masking in the business.

No program is free that will do that and be user friendly. Only free one is GIMP.....it is a photoshop work a like. It is user friendly if you understand photo editing software. They all work pretty much the same, grab a tool and go to work. and read the help file if needed.

I don't know; there has to be an easier way. I can get around a computer usually where I need to go; but far from really knowledgeable. I took a six week course (two hours each Monday) for Photoshop CC at Univ. of Tx informal classes network. Probably the instructor did not do a good job teaching. 20 people started the class; 11 finished. By the last class, at least a 3rd of the remaining 11 were checking their e-mail and another 3rd just sitting there as they were lost. The instructor had been a professional photographer for over 40 years. I point this out as, although the majority of people on UHH are really trying to be helpful, there are always a few who make you feel dumb with their remarks rather than understand that some of us are just starting out in photography and are not "pros" and/or "experts". ......"take a better picture" is not helpful, and as an answer adds nothing of use to the person asking the question. As a professor once said: "The only dumb question is the one you don't ask". So I will and hope others continue to asks questions on which we would like imput.

I've been using On1 since v7 and it just keeps getting better and better. The latest iteration is quite powerful, with lots of enhancements in the masking tools. It's easy to learn AND easy to use, and very fast to finished results.

Thanks to all for your comments and suggestions. I have downloaded an On1 trial. I am also trying Bonanza Burner. What I am trying to do is take a photo of an animal and transfer it to wood using a laser etching machine. I am trying to get the image of the animal on the wood to look like the photo and not crop out the fur, etc. of the dog. I am learning a great deal about laser etching, but I have so much more to learn.

Well, considering your final input, you do not need much in term of software. You will not need the precision of a hair.

Removing backgrounds ranges from easy to difficult, fast to time consuming. Sometimes when it is difficult and time consuming it is better to reshoot and recompose for better background results. This advice comes from Scott Kelby, Photoshop Guru.

I'm thinking self-serving, arrogant, pompous a sense of entitlement self-importance. Overbearing, pretentious. That kind. What were you thinking he was referring too?

Leave painting with a broad brush to painters.
