Sitting on corner of house after leaving feeder. Kansas tried to exterminate these in prior years.

Rather poor photo quality but you might of been in a hurry to get the shot. What I do in instances like this is snap one quick photo and then move slowly closer or stay put and make adjustments to the camera and see if the subject stays put to allow more pictures. This doesn't always work out but when it does you can get some good shots. vz

Glass is a challenge when trying to get the birds who are a little more shy. I have been a backyard feeder for 22 plus years and never had one come to the feeders so good for you. They are plentiful up around Wyandotte Lake. I live in Johnson county...where was this? Keep shooting!

Land of Oz...Abilene. Tis the only one I have seen since moving here in the mid-90s. Skitterish is an understatement. Also have Red-bellies and both Downies and Hairies. Had Flickers come in after a storm but was too slow to catch them on camera.

Yes...land of OZ! And Flint Hills...... or at least closer than I am. I had a pair of Flickers for awhile last winter...haven't seen them this year. I also had a red-bellied pair for first time last year. Just the downies so far this year. Keeping the peanuts out and hoping a lot.

Hope you don't mind but a little PP would improve your photo. Here is a quick example. It could use more work but I just wanted to give you a idea....Rich

Why would Kansas want to exterminate Red-Headed Woodpeckers??

Because they put holes in all the telephone polls was what I was told. As for clarity of picture, thank you. I never get those kind of results when I try to do something like that....fat fingeritis is part of the problem

Red headed WP are on the endangered watch list nationally.
All woodpeckers are protected as migratory song birds.
