I buy almost everything from Amazon, but checking the billing against my credit card can be frustrating. If I order more than one item at a time, and they split the order, it can be difficult to figure out why there is a charge of $11.87 on my credit card, especially when sales tax is applied. Right now, I have four unidentified charges on my CC. To avoid this problem, I am considering ordering items individually. If I order them one after the other, I suspect Amazon will bill them separately but send them together.

Have any of you done this?

No, but normally I buy Amazon gift cards and download them for purchases. It seems easier. I can just print out the order and it is pretty clear.

Never had any billing issues but due to shipping snafau, I now have 2 SanDisk 64 GB Extreme SD cards for the price of one. Bought one using my Amazon Prime membership but instead of 2 day delivery, it was 6 days & they replaced the order after 4 days. This was not the first time that I had had shipping issues where, the items were coming directly from Amazon warehouses, they did not come in the two day window as guaranteed. I've had 3 months added to my prime membership due to delays in shipping.

I have placed orders to Amazon several hours to about a day apart. Received items together and was billed separately. This only works if the items are shipped from the same warehouse. On occasion, items were shipped from different locations.

I use Microsoft Outlook for my email, and have multiple folders under "Inbox", one of which is for email receipts. The Amazon receipts go in there, so it is easy to review them.

I have and you are correct they will ship together if possible.

If you check the confirmation email Amazon sends after you place the order, you will likely find that it indicates the splitting of your order with each section of the email showing the charged amount. At least, this is how I have avoided dealing with the reconciliation problem when the card statement arrives.

It doesn't always make a difference... I have had the same issue with unidentifiable charges showing up. I started entering them into my records individually, but sometimes they will bill everything together, sometimes not. Since signing up for Prime, with free shipping, I will even place orders on different days to make sure that they are kept separate.

Jerry,

I order from Amazon very frequently. The charges on my CC are always listed and in a 1 to 1 correspondence with the purchases. Perhaps I am not comprehending the issue? I seldom order more than one item at a time, but when I have, I find the charges listed on my CC. I do not receive paper statements of my CC. I always view charges & statements online. Upon the occasions when I have ordered multiple items, they usually are packaged together.

I'll place an order for $150. Later that day, there will be charges for $18.77, $26.99, and $14.03 on my CC. What are they for? They're for some items from the $150 order. When you figure in taxes, which aren't always the correct 8%, it's impossible to know what the charges are for. If everything is shipped at the same time, there's no problem. It's when the order is split that confusion occurs.

I emailed Amazon about that and got a reply. They showed me the orders that were involved in the unidentified charges, but the orders contained several items. I got some info about the charges, but it's still unclear. I'm going to switch to ordering one item at a time.

I now understand. I have never found any errors on my CC, unless for some merchants, returns have not yet completed posting. I check my credit cards (online) most days. The same with my banking.
I do not receive paper statements and never, "balance" my checkbook. Actually, I do not keep one. I find it no longer necessary. The few errors I have found in the past 15+ years, have been mine. I only write paper checks for items I can't do online - very few.

Amazon emails you the notice of the transaction when you buy the item. That notice has all the information on it, including final cost. I label the emails as Invoices and save them until the credit card bill comes in. Then I compare them with the bill and delete them from the Invoices file.

The email contains the total cost, and the prices of the individual items (sometimes!), but the credit card bill will have tax and or shipping added to some items but not others, and the total order is often billed as 3 or 4 different charges. Seen that a lot...

Jerry, I have had this happen to me and have contacted the credit card company I used. They have informed me a couple of times that the charges were incorrect and that
my card had been compromised, issued me a new card and placed a fraud alert in my file. The last time I challenged it the charge was a duplicate charge for shipping for 3.11.....turns out it was a test run for fraud.

Jerry, if you go to your "orders" on Amazon, at the top of the order ..greyish band...on the right side you will see links for "order details" and one for "Invoice"..click on the invoice one and if they split your order they will have it listed that way on the invoice so you can see what the individual charge was for. I have this occur also. I just check the invoice..not the receipt you get in your email from Amazon.
