NIK with LR & PS upgrades

This is informational, but I'm curious if anyone else has had my problem yet, or maybe, knew about it from some source that I missed.
A couple of weeks ago I upgraded to 2017 in both. Eventually I had a shot that I wanted in BW, which I use in PS. When I tried to combine the layers, PS quit. Did it again, and it quit again. Without asking for expert help, I uninstalled NIK and reinstalled it. Same problem.
Then I used NIK in LR, which I had never done, because I use PS routinely for adjustments after the basics in LR. It worked.
Thoroughly confused, I contacted Adobe. Ultimately, after installing the newest PS (2018), he learned from a supervisor that the new (2017 & 2018) PSs no longer support NIK. However, according to a friend who has been in contact with the company in France that bought NIK, sometime in the Spring of 2018, the upgraded plugin will be available.

Bought by DxO and I'm sure will become "un-free" and expanded.

Nik still works out of LR for me. I am still using an older os as my 2009 Mac can not be upgraded

The NIK filters work fine in my copy of PS CC 2018.

Amersfoort, we uninstalled 2017 & 2018 PS and reinstalled both, separately, of course, trying to get NIK to work, ending up with 2018. What OS are you using? Would that even be a good question? I prefer NIK in PS, because I can leave or change colors while keeping most of the photos in BW. Don't know how to do that in LR.

The Google NIK Collection would not install to my laptop computer after installing Adobe Photoshop Creative Cloud.

Solution: I had to replace my laptop with a newer model. The NIK plug-ins then installed. They now work just as before, but under PCC.

I take as good news that DxO bought the NIK software so that it will not die.

I have come to rely on Color Efex Pro, Silver Efex Pro 2, and Viveza among the NIK filters.

I am running Windows 7 Pro and NIK works fine. My wife has Windows 10 and NIK works fine on her PC also. Both machines have 8 GB RAM.

A year or so ago, Adobe put out the word to third party plug-in developers about how or where they should install. NIK had stopped updating so it still works the "old" way. You may or may not need to run the NIK installation after an Adobe update/upgrade. The new owners will likely fix that.

On my computer with the latest CC stuff NIK shows up where it is supposed to.

That said, you don't need have your "host software" accept NIK. Find where the NIK files are installed. (C:\Program Files\Google\NIK Collection). Drag and drop an image file on the app exe. It will open. (I don't think RAW works. You probably have to export/save-as to something else.)

Thanks for workaround. It should prove useful to others.

Another GREAT reason to not be subject to Adobe Tyranny! What plug-in will they pull the plug on next? Oh, but wait... It's just $10 a month!

But the supervisor was wrong. I have NIK working in both CC 2017 and CC 2018.

I had the same results when calling Adobe support after I upgraded to the 2018 version. Naturally I was disappointed....then read on here the next day that someone said to reinstall it from the download you original got from NIK...I did that and NIK works on my Windows 7 pro machine and Windows 10 laptop on the 2018 version with no hiccups so far....try to reinstall despite what Adobe says...too many of us on here have it working with the new version. Good luck!

Tried reinstalling it myself on the PS 2017, then the Adobe expert tried with 2018. Didn't work. Might have something to do with the High Sierra OS on my Mac. I'll survive in LR until something else comes along.
