This is a great little camera; I bought it on David Meunch's recommendation, Outdoor Photography did 2 articles with him using this camera, afterwards I emailed him. It takes fantastic pics but my problem is that it isn't working right in the Scene modes. It will frame the pic in natural color for a split second and then the pic goes very dark. Camera wasn't dropped and I don't know what happened. Also has anyone had experience with sending a camera back for repair? Any info would be appreciated. Thank you!!

That camera is the predecessor to the present FZ80. I saw that camera at Best Buy about 2 years ago. Nice camera with a long focal range. Someone on this forum must own this camera to offer help. It may be a operator error. If not, you can check with Precision Camera Repair or go to the website www.camerarepair.com Good luck.

I own a TZ80. I'm sure you are looking through the viewfinder when this happens. I also suspect you are using the circular ring around the lens, so as to change the aperture for example. And when the view changes to 'very dark' or 'very light', it's tell you that your exposure will turn out to be under exposed or over exposed, respectively. I love that feature and found that my RAW images came out to be just that...'under' or 'over', if I took the shot while the view was dark or light, respectively.

Nothing wrong with the camera, just giving you great information. When that happens, rotate the ring and you'll see that the dark viewfinder will lighten up once you've increased the exposure.

Is it under warranty? If so, there's your solution. They will probably send you a new camera rather than repair it. All other features work okay?

I purchased this camera from B&H open box rated a 10 for $350 I have used the camera twice in auto good results beautiful hawk at full zoom but I need to sit down with a downloaded manual and learn about the camera buttons are a little small for my big lack of dexterity fingers. Good luck with your issue if anyone knows of a good tutorial ld appreciate the help

I've run into this on a couple of cameras and it turns out they were "stopping down" for depth of field preview as the button is depressed. It was a procedural issue, I had to change my way of approach.

Actually, Elliott, there is no circular ring on the FZ series like there is on the TZ series. Your advice is dead on if he were using the TZ70.

Actually, bhope, I use the Scene modes frequently on my FZ70, shooting a lot through "Glass," for instance, and I never experienced what you are describing. Does this happen on both the LCD screen and when using the Viewfinder? A call to Panasonic is in order I would suspect. Let us know what they say!

Guess it's not such a great little camera after all.

Actually, I think it is. During the scare that our Secretary of Home Land Security started when he said 'possibly nothing larger than a cell phone will be permitted in the flight cabin', I left my 5DII at home and bought the TZ80 a Baltic vacation. The results are actually very impressive, for both .jpg and RAW, and coming out of a small camera.
