Curious question. Not new to photography or photoshop, but curious how you all are obtaining your shutter count? I have two Canon 5DII bodies, and I was told that I had to take it to a camera shop and ask them to obtain the shutter count. Is that true? Is there a way to obtain it myself at home?

Dire Studio is inexpensive and works for my 7D Mkii and 6D.

No, absolutely not the case. You can obtain your shutter count by uploading a jpeg to a number of sites online or software/shareware for a downloadable application.

I also use ShutterCount by DireStudio on my 70D. Does not work on my 5dM4 but their list includes up to a 5dM3 and the 1DXM2. A search for shuttercount brings up DireStudio as the first listing on Google.

In Photoshop in file, click file info, and then advanced will display shutter count.

Cytafex,
I tried the file, file info, and then advanced, but no shutter count there. Which version of Photoshop are you using?

First, Canon counts every shutter operation.
Now, you have a choice with canon; either auto reset image numbering with each new format of your disk or continuous count.
Even if you run on auto reset count for years, if you change back to continuous count, you will immediately go back to the continuous count of shutter operations from the time you took the camera out of the box.

My 2 year old 750D is on Frame 13,191

Canon does not report shutter count information in EXIF data. It needs software to interrogate the camera, uploading an image does not work. Dire Studios has such software, also EOSMSG.COM does, which works very well, even on most of the newest models. It has a small charge, but is licensed per camera. Good luck.

Elliott....Open Bridge, click on a file, doesn't matter if it's raw or jpeg, do not open. Go up to File>Scroll down to File Info on bottom>Advanced>Schema Then look for Image Number.
Best,
PAZ

Thank you PAZ,
I'm taking my camera to the STL Zoo this afternoon. I'll try your suggestion as soon as I arrive home.

Canon shuttercount has been discussed to death on UHH, and most posters have limited or inaccurate knowledge of the topic.

You will not get accurate information from images or image file numbers.

I have finally discovered how to get the shutter count on my Lumix but need almost all my fingers simultaneously to get it. I askk why the camera makers are so touchy about owners getting such information.
