Look for a flying service that has uses the Cessna 207 or Dehavilland Beaver. Both hold 6 people. The Dehavilland Otter holds at least 8 people. If you feel particularly flush, there are some helicopter outfits, but that’s an expensive way to go.

The cool thing about Denali is that you use their bus system. You can get dropped off anywhere along the road, do whatever hiking you want to where ever you want, and then pick up the bus again. It is a huge park so wildlife sightings are not guaranteed.
If he is going to Brooks Lodge/Katmai National Park as you indicate, he should see plenty of bear action. There were 15 bears there at the same time when we went. We also took a one day boat trip out of Seward and saw humpbacks, orcas, eagles, sea lions,
and sea otters. Do as much research as possible before going and tailor the trip to personal tastes.

He does plan to go off the road and hike in where he can. Good to know.

The service we used had many planes of varying sizes. We were on a plane that sat eight.

Thank you for your reply. Do you or anyone know what the limitations are regarding the float plane. Currently there are four photographers going on the trip so far but more may join, anyway how many people are allowed on the plane and does anyone have recommendations regarding flight companies.

He kind of thought he wouldn't be able to see the lights so that's another trip. The focus will be wildlife on this trip.

The float plane information is very helpful. They are just now zeroing in on the itinerary thanks to the Hedge Hogs.

Go to Katmailand.com for information and arrangements to fly from Anchorage to Katmai and to make accommodations there. The first couple of weeks of July bring the bears to Brooks Falls and the lagoon. Katmai is a great place to take photos of the bears catching salmon.

Just an aside for your friend. If he will be driving places to catch pics of various wildlife, he would be wise to have a handgun with him if he owns one?

If he drives, his firearms will be confiscated at Canadian Border (personal pepper spray will be confiscated also). Bear spray is a much better option (currently not confiscated at Canadian Border, subject to change). Besides, results will be much better if the wildlife get it and use it on your friend. Wildlife will normally only get aggressive if you get stupid close. Can't take anything personal protective, IE guns, pepper spray to Katmai, or ANY National Park. My wife was within 2 feet of a grizzly, and didn't feel threatened... much. It was a cub recently weaned, walked right by our car along the AlCan. Moose are actually the most dangerous!!!

Don't know where you are but Southeast was cold and extra wet all summer. Hoping for better next summer. Home is Juneau.

Just to clarify a point regarding weather, 2017 has been the worst summer, weatherwise, that we’ve had in years. Typically, the weather is best in June. Just not this year.
