Hi folks

First thank you very much for being here. I found your forum a few days ago when I tried to find the solution for a lighting question and it really helped.

A bit about me. I'm a beginner partway through an online course. I really love it when I can see progress but sometimes the new terminology and concepts frazzle my brain but the good thing is.. Topics at the start I couldn't understand I now do!! So I'm getting there.

I thought I would ask this question. I have a canon 5dii. I'd love to set up some shots of me and my dog and trigger them remotely. My question is do I have to buy a trigger on a longer wire or is there another solution. My camera does not have wifi.

Most cameras are equipped with a 5 or 10 second delay to snap the shutter or you can use a remote, some newer remotes are wireless. Welcome and good luck.

Welcome to the forum. You can get a remote accessory for your 5D, the Canon RC-6 wireless remote

Thanks Ched for your reply.
I knew about and have tried the timer but I wondered if there are any that work without a long wire but you don't need a wireless camera. If that makes sense..

I think most if the wireless remotes work with infrared (or ultrasound?)instead of wifi so it should work with your camera.

Welcome aboard.
A 5DII, Great camera back in its day. Still a darn good one today. I almost bought one but decided to wait. I waited so long I finally ended up getting the MK IV. Anyway, you can get the Canon wireless remote or save yourself some money and get an aftermarket wireless remote. They work the same and cost less. They are line of sight; they use infrared light to talk to the camera.

You can use yongnuo yn603 trigger pair with a release cable that plugs into the body and one of the triggers in the hotshoe. You hold the other trigger in your hand and just push the button. B&H sells for $28 and includes 2 triggers and the cable. Its rf-wireless based. I have triggered it from more than 100yds away....cheap and works perfectly...

Hi folks br br First thank you very much for bein... (show quote)

Welcome to UHH Clatabo, You'll enjoy it. I have a Canon 7D and an infrared remote aimed at the sensor from in front of the Camera works wonderfully, I have my eye on a radio frequency remote that can be used from a greater distance from the camera, I'll acquire that one pretty soon. both these remotes are available from either B&H Photo or from Amazon.
