Apple today introduced its third generation Watch, a new Apple TV 4K, iPhone 8, and iPhone X (pronounced ten).

The amount of change they have revealed in just one year is mind boggling. I won't talk about it here... Their web site has all the details.

The new iPhone cameras are scary good. You have to see the demo to understand why.

And turning your face into an animated emoji (animoji) that talks in your own voice with YOUR expressions? Priceless... You can even turn your face into an animated pile of poo! (as Craig Federighi demonstrated live)

I'm as stunned today as I was in January, 2007, watching Steve Jobs reveal the first iPhone.

The Apple naysayers will now come out from under the bridge. But do yourselves a favor, naysayers, and go to the web site and watch the demos and films.

Some years ago I would have been interested, but the fact is that I find no need for a new smartphone yet. I am using a 4 year old smartphone that does everything I wish and does it well. But I will look at this new iPhone in case the camera might be good enough to consider switching to apple.

Well, had a quick look at the info and specs and can not say that it tempts me. I am going to pass on this model X. I am a practical guy and all this funny stuff just turnes me off

I don't need a new iPhone to turn my online presence into an animated pile of poo! I think I've already achieved that status!

The X looks decent! The 8 looks the same as the 6, and 7 which doesn't look as good as the 5 or the 4.

It's not something anyone truly NEEDS. But it is a tempting toy for gamers and a really useful tool for business people. Apple will probably be a trillion dollar company soon, largely due to the items they introduced today.

The 5s is still at the bottom of their line-up, along with 6,7,8, and X. So they have every price range covered.

I had a 4s, and my daughter just bought a 5s last year. I do love that look. They've largely brought it back in the 8, with (much stronger) glass on both sides.

Apple's name says it all. Make technology so tempting, you have to have it!

Can you imagine if UHH avatars could be animated?

It looks like animoji usage will be limited to the Messages application.

It's true, iPhones are amazing devices. What I don't care for is that the advances in mobile devices seem to come at the expense of computers. I understand that mobile devices are where the money is so that's where the focus is, but Apple built it's reputation on computers and it seems a shame to me that Apple has put them on the bottom shelf.
For me, I don't need all the things that smartphones offer. They have functions and apps that are convenient, but not necessary. The "phones" keep getting larger and more expensive and a new one comes out every year and (to me) that smells of planned obsolescence.
I had an iPhone 5, then an iPhone 6, but I don't really need anything more from a phone than a phone. I wonder if the popularity of getting a new smartphone every year is a form of mass hysteria.
Any way, I switched to a LG Revere flip phone and don't feel that I'm missing anything. That's just me, to each his own.

Ha! One of the advantages of working in "hi tech" is that you get less impressed with the new stuff every year. We've only just dumped our old iPhone 4S models for iPhone SEs. One of my wife's oldest friends has a nephew-in-law who is a pretty ( read very) high mucky muck at Apple, but she doesn't have much time for tech toys. When she goes to Europe in a month she's taking one of our old iPhone 4S models, since it does all she needs, it is free, - no family obligation if it gets trashed - and will function as well as she needs. Camera wise her Lumix will do just fine, she has some tremors and the DSLR stuff became too much of a burden!

Life gets interesting, don't it!

My iPhone is my

email client
map and turn-by-turn navigator, on foot, or in a car
compass
level
weather forecaster/checker
clock, stop watch, alarm clock, timer
calendar/planner/reminder/scheduler
calculator
banking tool
TV Guide
portable "Cable" TV
casual still camera and still image editor
casual video camera and video editor
portable FAX machine
portable scanner
portable audio recorder and mixer
note taker
travel advisor (Yelp!, Urban Spoon, Open Table, Hampton Inn app, Fly Delta app, Allegiant Air app, RCI, Travelocity, Expedia, Enterprise...)
text and messaging app
Video phone (FaceTime, Skype)
Contact database/phone book
Internet browser
Dictionary
Social media communicator
Kindle Reader and iBooks reader
Internet radio
Barcode reader
Magazine reader
Shopping tool (eBay, Amazon, Target, Walmart, B&H, Best Buy...)

...and a lot more. But those are the things I'll use in the course of daily life.

I have computers as well. Content creation (other than photographic/video/audio capture) is best done on a computer.

I had an iPad five years ago. It was a content consumption and reference device, but not as convenient for things best done on the iPhone or Mac/PC.

I don't (yet) see a need for the smart watch.

But the iPhone and Macs are probably the two things I have that are truly satisfying to use, and I use them a LOT.

Really? I still have an old Nokia (2003 model). It does all I need when I travel outside the US. Here I am stuck with a stupid smartphone given to me by Trackphone. I use it when there a blue moon and IF I happen to travel so... The new stuff like that? Poo.

It does not matter what the brand is. Just poo I do not it.
