So sorry your vacation was ruined, but glad you got out!!
Its good to see you made it home safe. I wouldn't have wanted to be in your shoes driving back home and worrying about fuel and bathrooms for 16 hours. Not pleasant.
Your post made me wonder what an exodus would be like when a higher percentage of us drove electric vehicles. You can't fuel up in 5 minutes to recharge batteries and the places to get recharged would be much fewer. Makes me doubt what many talking heads are saying about electric cars being the only thing to buy in the near future.

Hi Folks, well leave it to a Hurricane to cut short our Florida Vacation. My wife and I stayed at Treasure Island of the Gulf side for 3 days, then went to Disney for 2 days but cut that Disney visit short to one day so we could get the heck out. These are some photos I took on our journey North back to Nashville. It took us nearly 16 hours split into 2 days to get home. I feel sorry for those still trying to get out. We ran into gas shortages, many stations were out. Motels are full and people are sleeping in their cars at Rest Areas. This is a very serious situation and my thoughts and prayers will be for those who are trying to get out and those who couldn't make it out. It was a sobering, long, stressful and sad trip home. Needless to say, the "Magic" from being at the Magic Kingdom quickly faded away. Good Luck to all you people in Florida and Georgia.

james...i am so glad you and your wife made it home safely and didn't run out of gas and have to sleep in your car.
the traffic in atlanta is always horrible, and from looking at your shot of it, it was was slow going and very stressful.
my prayers are for all people trying to get out of florida, and for those who can't. i just have this feeling irma is going to
be really bad and destructive for so many people and the state of florida and all along that coast.. there will be many heros
helping out...thank god for all of them, whoever they are and whatever they do to help.

I have to be a little cynical here. It will be another more than likely tragic disaster in one way or another. All i ask is that sure those electric guys are heading into harms way but if people like me in the BIG trucks dont haul them supplys like transformers and such and food and water and what ever else they need then they might as well stay home. Soooo please at least occasionally include an 18 wheeler in the list of heroes. We give up just as much if not more everyday keeping the country supplied with all theirs wants and needs. Including ups bringing gas products

Indeed. As much as I complain about the big wheelers, I do admire the dedication of the drivers. So,on trips, I wave to to them! Couldn't do without you and your buddies! Thanks!
Glad you got out intact. Alanta is impossible on a good day!
James, glad you and your family got out safely. Prayers are in order.
We have good friends who live in Treasure Island. At this very moment they're at Tampa airport catching their flight here. Looks like we'll have houseguests for a bit. I think I'll run out and replenish my beer stocks.
Your photos really put us in the action, nice job. I especially liked the one of Atlanta, as I'd been thinking of this as a Florida problem, but you disabused me of that notion.

It wasn't a total loss Bob. At least we got to spend some time at the Treasure Island/Tampa Bay area. I have tons of memories and the same number of photos. Spent some time at John's Pass and got some good Pelican shots. We ate at Spinner's (a roof top restaurant) where I got to spend a ton of money. They served the best steak I've had in 10 years.
To all truckers who are helping! 👏👍🏻👍🏻
Glad you are safe. /George
