Including this useless post, there have been at least 16 separate threads regarding the eclipse, since the 15th. I'm so sick and tired about everyone creating their own separate thread about this subject, I hope the whole country is cloudy that day!

A wee bit grumpy, are we...!? Why does this bother you? If you aren't interested in the eclipse or participating in a conversation about it, just ignore the postings.

After the 21st, expect at least a week of topics such as: "My images of the eclipse came out terrible... what did I do wrong?", as well as the Gallery section swamped with images of the event - a few good ones, but most will be forgettable.

The most annoying part, is the same questions over and over again. Why people cannot accept that a proper Solar Filter is necessary for photography, and solar glasses needed for viewing. anything less, is dangerous to ones eyes, and ones camera. I think the only thing that will save people getting damage to one or both, will be a whacking deep layer of cloud on the day. That would be a foregone situation over here in the UK. Remember the last one??

If that happens they can just go reshoot it....

Many folks are treating the event like the Second Coming. Scientists and astronomers from all corners of the globe are covering the eclipse with cameras, telescopes and instruments far more powerful than what most of us have. I see little sense in trying to duplicate their efforts, even if it happens not to be cloudy for the 2-3 minute totality.

I'm not sure this Eclipse is for real or if it's just another
hoax like the moon landing in 1969 !
......I mean the Sun rises in the East and so does the Moon.....
then somehow the Eclipse starts in the West and goes East......now
how the hell is that possible??!!
....Lots of people making lots of money off this big joke .....I'll just
stay here in Tucson and see what goes on !

Here is an animation showing the path of the moon shadow across the face of the earth. Its viewpoint is for the moon but shows the path moving eastward due to the difference in the speed of the rotation of the earth on its axis and that of the moon.

I'm sure that the earth being flat has something to do with it.

Let them have their day as they will learn the hard way they are not photographers.

I can make my own eclipse any time I want - I just need a circular bit of card . . .

Yeah, perhaps. That one, instead of crossing coast-to-coast, is basically coming up the East side of the country. The odds of bad weather are *much* higher anywhere along the path in April than they are in August.

I have to admit, though, I am sick of the interminable posts about "do I need a filter...". I mean, I get the digest and go through it every day. Surely, anyone with an interest in photographing the eclipse would have noticed *some* of these posts, just on a casual scan???

Personally, I got shafted anyway. I was planning on heading down to Kentucky somewhere and living in the car for a couple of days. I am a substitute school bus driver, and tomorrow is our first day back to school. I was notified a couple of weeks ago that we had lost a driver, and I would be needed to cover the route for at least the next few weeks. Knowing that I would be actually driving kids home during the eclipse, and not able to watch anything, I cancelled my order for eclipse glasses. Then, just a few days ago, the school board decided that they are scared of kids watching the eclipse while on the bus, and damaging their eyes, with all the ensuing lawsuits, that they have declared an early dismissal...
So, I will be home in time to watch the 90-some% partial, but with no eye protection of my own! I had no intention at any time of trying to photograph it, even if I made it to totality, but did hope to be able to watch it, weather permitting.

Knowing what the weather tends to be like here in April, I will wait for the next one, but without too much hope...
