Sat on the deck this evening and watched the Sun descend through cloud and smoke. Trying to decide on the best approach for a potentially cloudy / smoky solar eclipse.

Both are nice, but like the first one best.

Went to your flicker...is that all smoke throughout the trees? Wow.

Yes, that is smoke through the trees and valley. Actually this was one of the better days. We've had several days over the summer when you couldn't see the creek in the valley...

On the positive side, one doesn't require solar filters to shoot white (red) light solar

Absolutely gorgeous images, Brian!
Gads, you should probably be living in a respirator.

Makes me think of the 1990's when we were having a phenomenon called El Nino~ down here.
Unusually warm ocean caused clouds and rain. But the Sunrises, and the Sunsets, were incredible!
So much so, I built a camera mount I could set on my seat back, then film my drive to work.
Never did get my software to do the data justice.
Ah, those early dayz of digital trials!

After days in this muck starting to use a respirator now is probably too late; however, I'll driving into the smoke as I make my way to Oregon for eclipse so might take your advice and pick up a respirator and bottled oxygen for the trip...

Beautiful shots Brian. Well worth your lounging time.
Your Flickr account is also spectacular as well.

Good luck in Oregon as well with the smoke depending on where you're going.
I will be in Ashland and expect some partial cloudiness and light smoke.
