Since everybody is hanging out their Johnson's....

I grabbed mine last night.

First, I doubt I would have had such luck without Brian W's tip about entering the RA and dec in the NexStar menu.
I used the site "The Sky Live" to get my coordinates, and to double check the nearby stars to the targeted spot (which happens to be invisible to Stellarium).
But the RA and DEC set me right where I thought I should be.

Then brought down some images to get my time right. And then started a sequence and called it a night.
I got 5 keepers out of 10 in the sequence. (fit files. )

So I have been playing with those today.
(And I expect I'll be playing with my Johnson more, weather permitting.)

And it should be a good object since it is coming closer into June.

Thanks!
I'm using an online gif generator. Then download the gif, and serve it up like fried chicken.

Pretty fun, if you like that kind of stuff.

I'm testing some piles right now.

LOL!
I'm about to set up for another yank...

(Shame on me!)

No fooling around tonight. Brian W's method worked great last night.
I want to try more of that.
Crank in the coordinates, and dish up the fish.

Yep, things are looking Up.

I'm doing some research into last nights gatherings. I did a 25 image sequence, but between 19 and 20 there was a big jump, even double stars.
So I want to look at Stellarium and go back to see if a meridian flip occured, or a cable tangle, or what might have disturbed the mount. (Owl landed? Playfull raccoon? Death Star?)

Here's the 19 image gif:

19ea - 600 second images (1140 total seconds)

Glad you had a chance to find and shoot your Johnson, err, Comet Johnson that is!

The comet is closer to Earth in June but I believe is farther from the Sun so not too sure how this will equate to the brightness and visibility of its tail??

I see that banding is still showing its ugly head...

Well, no surprise about the banding; still the same POS camera.

But your tip about the User Menu and entering the RA and DEC coordinates is spot on.
Now I want to go after other elusive targets, like PanStarrs, or 41P. muh, ha, ha, ha, haaa.

Besides, once I have it in my sights, I can set up a sequence like last night and start it and walk away.

I want some Oceanfront Property in Aridzona. (Especially with Loony Brown running rampid with his bullet train.)
Imagine being set up on one of the Northward Facing Points on Lake Powell.

600 seconds = 10 minutes for each image. Or 190 minutes of collected images, if you will.

I set a sequence of 25 - 600 second images, fell asleep watching TV, woke up at 3 AM, parked the telescope, brought it in and went to bed.
Practically unattended image acquisition.

I've taken to calling it my Borg-A-Scope. It's a machine.

Thank You Craig.
But the credit belongs to many nights trying to get the best out of the mount and scope.
It's alive, Alive!

Time to set up again....
Eny, meany, miny, moe...
A target for tonight,
Oh I don't know....

Spoils of last night.
How's this for wag, Craig?

(I'm trying to perfect Bwana's method of aiming/object acquisition. Last night I was copy/pasting the RA and Dec in Stellarium, then slewing. These moving targets are a bit tougher.)

You're getting damnably good at that comet!
