What about the Nikon P900? I have used Canon SLRs and DSLRs for years but the P900 looks interesting.

Many thanks everyone. I especially enjoyed the link to Mrs. Stokes' evaluation of the SX50 and the SX60.
I am going to buy a new camera immediately and probably the SX 60, but am going to try both out again today.
Everyone who answered has been most helpful!

Time is precious. I love my Canon SX50 (discontinued) but the SX60 HS gives you more zoom (65x) and is $380 on Canon's Outlet site (Referbished). But given a choice now, I would opt for the One of the Sonys HX300, Or HX400 Zeiss Lens 50x zoom $500. Or for less money but more zoom the Sony HSC-H400 63x zoom $270. I find the Nikon bigger and heavier than the Canon and Sony. I'm 65 and starting to have some tremor in my hands with heavy objects. The Canon and Sony are light and their imagage stabilization really helps. Happy Shooting

I have had an SX 50 that I was very happy with. One day the sensor went bad and I sent it in to Canon for repair. They called and said that it would cost more to fix it than a new one & I could just throw it away or they would be happy to replace it with a new SX60 for the cost of shipping. I chose that option & have been very happy with that option. I like the SX 60 better Than the old SX50. The newer is a better one.

anyone know where I can get a sx50? I can,t find one. I had a SX40 and give it to my oldest daughter. Would love to replace it with the SX50 as it rates much better than the SX60. I have a Nikon d5100 but would love to have the SX50 as a light weight back up.

I am in my seventies and am an avid birdwatcher from my desk as well as traveller. (Several bird feeders) I also want better photos of wildlife in my Maine field than an iphone 6 gives.
Do not want the weight of a DSLR, but a better telephoto than a pocket camera. Have always used Canon so not sure I want to learn a new system.
Should I go with the Canon SX60, wait until the mythical SX70 appears, or be brave and try another brand? I do not want a camera heavier that the SX60.

Hi, i use an SX50, and have done for a couple of years,it is a great camera and low in cost. i have been into wildlife photography for 65years and find the SX50 great as it is very light, and at my age luging heavy equipment is a thing of the past.I have enclosed a couple of shots to show you what the camera can do.Regards, Alfie.

In what way is the SX50HS a better camera than the SX60HS? The only advantage the 50 has over the 60 is weight.

I've heard this debate on the SX50 vs the SX60 for quite a while too. And many don't realize that the SX50 has been discontinued for a long time. As for myself, I would take the SX60 over the SX50 any day of the week. The same debate came about when the Nikon D7200 was released. Nikon D7100 owners said it was better than the D7200. It was not.

I had a SX50SH. It was stolen and I replaced it (insurance) with a SX60SH. I didn't think to compare the two cameras at the time but (its been a couple years now) I have never been unhappy with the SX60SH in any way. In fact, IIRC, my first impression was "impressed" but I don't trust my memory like I used to.

Thank you. No, I am not interested in either GPS or bluetooth. Am hoping to figure out to connect the camera to my iphone for an occasional uploading of a photo to social media.

I really appreciate all the responses of folk to my question!

I don't remember about the SX50Sh but the SX60HS has NFC (Near Field Communication). If your phone has that capability, all you have to do is get the phone close to the camera and the image (that is active) will transfer to the phone automatically.

I have had both the SX50 and SX60. I went back to the 50 because it seemed to focus faster, and I honestly believe the images are just as sharp. I'll never sell my 50, and main camera is Canon 5D Mk IV.

Carpe diem! Take the SX60 and enjoy! (I speak from the wisdom(?) of someone in her seventies who recently got hit out of the clear blue sky with an incurable cancer diagnosis--a few months if I am lucky)

God bless you Cape Codder; I'll hold you in my prayers.
