Hi Hogs with a Nikon d500. How do I shut off focus tracking with lock on?
Thanks in advance.
I know it is something I am just missing. Brain doesn't work sometimes.

Might not the answer lie in your user's manual?

Hi I have a Nikon d90 and I use the ae. And af button to create auto tracking. I believe if you don't press the auto on it should not do auto tracking when you only use the shutter button . I am sure this addressed your issue. Just a thought.

That's not tracking, just how the AF is activated. Tracking is what happens when you acquire focus on a moving subject, (either with back button or half-shutter press), and how long it maintains focus, even if the moving subject goes behind something, like a tree, or if shooting field sports, another player. Nikon offers 5 levels of tracking - from 1 to 5 and off. When set to one, the camera will quickly attempt to reacquire focus in these situations, and set to 5 it may take a couple of seconds before it "lets go" of the focus as it was initially acquired, before you can reacquire.

Perfect explanation Gene, thank you. I had it set to 3 but lets go to soon for me. I am going to try 2 on Monday.

Using 2 will let it go sooner - try 4 instead.

Correct my mistake. 4 is the one.
