Does anyone know of a program to eliminate ads on their computer?

I am getting so fed up with having distracting motion ads, unwanted videos, audios, etc., on my computer. I am sure it is slowing it down, too, as I do not have
the fastest online service and graphics eat up usage. I'd had a program a few years ago that stopped ads, however, after a trip to the computer tune-up guru which necessitated having
a complete re-install done, I no longer had the program and can't remember what it was. Do any of you utilize programs to stop ads from running? Thank you

Ads are what pays for this website. But there shouldn't be any audio or video playing on its own.

Sorry, I wasn't referring to this website. But, it seems that every webpage I open has something running on it, audio, video or both trying to sell me something. I have no problem with ads that
are just there and stationary, however, when they have all sorts of annoying actions, blinking on and off, etc., I will leave the webpage, or if possible, slide the window over to the left or right so that the ad is not visible, rather than submit myself to the aggravation of Madison Avenue type of bombardment. I will actually pay more attention to an ad that is static, than an annoying one that takes my attention from what I am reading.

Hmm. Are you sure your computer isn't infected by adware?

I have Kaspersky Total Security, SpywareBlaster & Malwarebytes, along with keeping current with Windows updates. I make sure to run the updates on those 3 security programs every night before shutting down. I run CCleaner about once a week to get rid of any unwanted cookies, etc. I also run Belarc about once a month to make sure everything else is current with updates. Apparently AOL is aware of all the ads as they've recently touted some program to stop the ads, but, being the suspicious sort, I wondered "why" are THEY offering this? Thank you for your input.
