Astronomics is offering refurbished 8300s. Sorry Craig, doesn't help you. I'm betting these were fixing the jack that pulls loselooks like they improved it. Maybe a good opertunity get a decent CCD for a reasonable price. If you are interested, Craig and I could share our experiences with these. (Craig, I assume you don't mind me volunteering you)

That one sold out already, but they have this one now. I had this one too. https://www.astronomics.com/celestron-nightscape-ccd-camera_p19460.aspx

The CFO said no.
Heck of a deal though. 1/4 of the M$RP, 1 year warranty.

Why did Celestron discontinue this camera?

According to their calculator, ideal focal length (telescope) was 489 mm. Mine is 480 mm.
S_it.

I think the camera was very good, software super early, but would not use the software to process. The problem was that the wires get caught and rips the jack lose from the camera. After I messed mine up, I bought my QHY, but I also bought a used 8300 as a backup. The camera was really nice, just have to be careful not to tear the wire out of the camera. Note, QHY has same issue, but they came up with a solution to have a mount to hold the wires to the camera body.

Did you already submit your appeal?

Naw. Appeals not worth the BS.

The wiring issue would be a non-issue for me. I loom my wiring and give it support. I use a wire-wrap, harness snaps, and split rings.
But most recently, having gone wireless (or less-wires) at the mount has the USB cables nearly immobilized, and power wires daisy chained.
The only movement is focusing, and it is very minimized. I changed my focus only about 40 steps tonight, which amounted to... oh... maybe 1 mm. (I love my electronic focusing!)
Looming doesn't make accidental damage impossible, but very unlikely.

I did my best with tonight, but the clouds got me. I think I learn something new every night.
Tonight I stepped up my imaging time in PHD2 to 3 seconds (from my normal 1s intervals) to shoot through the closing cloud cover. It worked. But soon the clouds closed me out altogether.
I didn't think further agony was worth the time, as my images were also going to hell.
So I sent it to home position, zeroed it out, and shut it down.
There are clearer days and nights ahead. Sunday through Thursday look promising.
The Sunflower Galaxy is in a good position when you get the skies for it. (If you haven't shot it before, you may like to.) It's N/E of Polaris.
I got a bit of it tonight. Like Arney, I vill be bok.

I got a few of the sunflower a week or so ago, it comes into my view about 1:30 am. I haven't looked at them, but that looks like a target you want to be sure guiding is good. It has a lot of dust lanes and a lot of detail...that may have been the one that got me going on trying to get my guiding better.

I have an email chain going with celestron, so far nothing I haven't tried already, but hopefully they can help me resolve it. They have been good to me in the past.

Celestron decided that they did not want to compete in the highend camera market but have plenty of decent planetary cameras.
You can ask Jim. Anyway I did love the Celestron 8300 but the the weak USB conector did me in I am glad the have fortified it.
I plan on sending my old one in and get it refurbished. Any questions anyone may have please ask.
