Looking for a headlamp?

Check into Princeton Tec headlamps. They make about 20 different models for every type of outdoor pursuit, including those that use alkaline, lithium and rechargeable batteries.
I have been a wilderness canoe tripper for a few decades and have had to paddle at night above rapids and waterfalls and have found the Princeton Tec series of headlapms to be the best. When you're paddling at night on a wild river and hear the roar of falling water in front of you, you want a dependable headlamp!
If you are in the backcountry for any length of time, you'll want a headlamp that uses AA batteries so you don't have to carry 2 or 3 different battery sizes and most equipment use AA alkalines.

Check out the REI store. Most REIs have knowledgeable sales people. They have high-quality gear for campers/backpackers. There's an REI in Cranston. Harbor Freight has cheap ones of unknown quality.

If you need one soon just swing by your local Home Depot and pick one up. I've got two or three and they work fine.

I second Grnways suggestion on the Black Diamond brand.
Many skiers around here use them.
I bought a BD headlamp after buying a Colman brand and was very disappointed in the Colman. I am amazed at how good the BD headlamps project light. When hiking, you especially need a HL that throws a good amount of light ahead of you.

I still have the 26 lumen e-lite (white and red) - in Jerrys link) which I keep as a spare. Top performance for a back up that'll fit easily in a small hand.

Have you tried Harbor Freight? They had both bulb and LED versions.

I don't want any lamp when I'm on the trail, I've made that mistake once. I'm better off without any light. Once you have it turn on and after a while turned off, you're latterly blind. I rather let my eyes adjust to the dark (even if I do not know the terrain, I feel a lot better that way!
